Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector has an immediate need for a Shelter Project Manager - Hardware. This position will be based in Boulder, Colorado.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan and orchestrate hands-on field work in support of deployed hardware systems, including installation, integration, troubleshooting, and maintenance in both CONUS and OCONUS locations.

  • Apply strong mechanical aptitude to plan and orchestrate the design, assembly, modification, and repair of structural and mechanical components (racks, mounts, enclosures, cabling, supports) for mission hardware.

  • Plan and support construction-related activities such as site layout, infrastructure walkdowns, equipment placement, cable routing, and coordination with general contractors and facilities teams.

  • Develop, review, and maintain installation procedures, bill of materials, and hardware configuration documentation for fielded systems.

  • Plan and orchestrate system-level and component-level hardware integration and checkout, including functional tests, environmental/fit checks, and verification of mechanical interfaces, ensuring they are completed with appropriate quality and schedule.

  • Support site surveys and pre-installation assessments to determine structural, mechanical, and environmental requirements for new or upgraded installations.

  • Identify, assess, and manage risks and issues associated with hardware integration and construction activities; drive root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and mitigation plans to support productivity, quality, and customer-satisfaction goals.

  • Serve as a liaison between multi-disciplinary teams (e.g. systems, RF, networking, facilities, logistics) to ensure hardware solutions meet performance, schedule, and safety requirements.

  • Support Basis of Estimates (BOEs) and proposal efforts for hardware and construction work scopes, including estimating labor, materials, and travel.

  • Prepare and deliver clear technical updates, status reports, and risk/issue documentation to program management and customers.

  • Ensure all field and construction activities are conducted in compliance with safety standards, site requirements, and applicable regulations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • United States Citizenship

  • No U.S. Government security clearance required to start

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret clearance and SCI approval/access will be required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related discipline and 2 years of professional experience. Or, Master’s degree with 0 years of professional experience. 4 additional years of work experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with mechanical assemblies, fasteners, structural support, and hardware integration.

  • Experience performing field installations and hardware integration at operational sites (e.g., data centers, ground stations, industrial facilities, or construction sites).

  • Experience working from mechanical drawings, construction plans, and wiring diagrams, and updating redlines/as-built documentation.

  • Experience coordinating or executing construction-related tasks, such as equipment mounting, infrastructure installation, and cable routing in building or shelter environments.

  • Willingness and ability to travel CONUS and OCONUS (including remote, austere, or secure locations) for extended periods, in support of installation, test, and maintenance activities.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical and hardware issues in the field.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting.

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to interface with customers, site personnel, and cross-functional engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with the ability to obtain and maintain SCI approval/access.

  • Extensive experience performing fieldwork for complex hardware systems in operational or construction environments (e.g., SATCOM ground stations, radar sites, secure facilities).

  • Experience with construction and facilities coordination, including working with general contractors, site managers, and safety officers to plan and execute installations.

  • Knowledge of relevant mechanical and structural standards, hardware mounting practices, and environmental considerations (shock/vibration, thermal, weather protection).

  • Ability to interpret and work from mechanical drawings, construction plans, wiring diagrams, and installation work instructions to execute hardware build and installation tasks.

  • Experience designing or implementing equipment racks, enclosures, mounting hardware, cable management, and physical layouts for hardware systems.

  • Familiarity with tools and equipment commonly used in field and construction settings (e.g., torque tools, lifts, test stands, alignment tools) and associated safety practices.

  • Experience developing and maintaining Basis of Estimates for hardware integration and construction activities.

  • Familiarity with MBSE (SysML) and requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS) for tracing hardware and installation requirements.

  • Experience working in or around secure facilities and understanding of physical security, site access, and operational constraints.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to work with uncertain or incomplete information while driving tasks to closure in the field.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on practical, field-ready solutions.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and to lead small field installation teams when required.

Primary Level Salary Range: $75,800.00 - $113,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
