Astroscale U.S. Inc. is currently seeking a Senior Test Engineer to join our team in our Denver, Colorado location. In this role, you will build up and manage testing facilities, do research and development in autonomous Rendezvous, Proximity Operations and Docking (RPOD) techniques, and manage test campaigns for both space and ground segments. You will be integral to developing the on-orbit servicing solutions that will deliver our vision of a sustainable space environment.

Job Description

  • Design, develop, and oversee laboratory testing facilities to enable Test Like You Fly (TLYF) practices with physical and virtual environment simulation as well as software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop.
  • Advocate for the principles of systems-thinking across all phases of projects, including Design for X (DfX) principles (design for assembly, integration, test), design compliance and verification, TLYF practices, test requirements derivation, acceptance, and qualification of flight hardware/software.
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee assembly, integration, and test activities across missions, including both hardware and software, as well as electrical, mechanical, and optical ground support equipment (GSE).
  • Execute electrical, mechanical, and optical satellite testing, including the generation of plans, procedures, and reports, and analysis of test data.
  • Assist in verification planning specifically for verification events involving testing.
  • Apply technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve engineering problems, including design issues, nonconformances, and test failures.
  • Collaborate with customer and supplier staff, as well as staff from other parts of Astroscale.

Qualifications

  • Previous hands-on experience with assembly, integration and test of space hardware and software including infrared and visible cameras, laser-based hardware and flight computers.
  • Experience in metrology and test setups while working in an ISO9001 or AS9100 environment.
  • Experience with illumination techniques is preferred.
  • Ability to understand the roles of each of the subsystems that build up a satellite and/or configuration items.
  • Understanding of planning and executing test activities to meet design requirements.
  • Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately and organize work assignments to meet established timetables.
  • Collaborative communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experienced professional with greater than 8 years of experience in engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree or PhD in science, technology, engineering or math, or equivalent experience.

Salary range: $140,000 – $170,000. The salary range represents the low and high end of the Astroscale U.S. Inc. salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, knowledge, and ability as applicable to the role.
