The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting and advancing OTAVA’s virtual infrastructure, enterprise systems, and automation platforms. This role contributes to configuration, and support of infrastructure, configuration management, orchestration, and automation tools. The position plays a critical role in ensuring reliability, scalability, security, and operational excellence across OTAVA’s production environments.
This position is being filled in one of the following location: Indianapolis, IN, Michigan, Ann Arbor MI, Denver, CO, Texas, TX
Role Responsibilities
- Design and deliver customer environments hosted on VMware Cloud Foundation
- Lead implementation and onboarding of customer workloads, including migrations
- Deploy, configure, and support VMware technologies including vSphere, NSX, vSAN, and VCF components
- Implement and support Veeam-based backup and recovery solutions
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across compute, storage, networking, and virtualization layers
- Work directly with customers to understand requirements and translate them into practical solutions
- Partner with internal teams to improve delivery processes, tooling, and operational efficiency
- Participate in escalation support for complex or high-impact customer issues
Experience
- Senior-level experience supporting or delivering enterprise infrastructure solutions
- Strong VMware background, ideally including VCF, vSphere, NSX, and vSAN
- Hands-on experience with Veeam backup and recovery platforms
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (routing, switching, firewalls)
- Experience supporting production environments and customer-facing services
- Comfortable operating as a generalist across multiple infrastructure domains

- Strong drive to solve complex technical problems using scalable, elegant, and maintainable solutions
- Expert-level troubleshooting skills with a persistent, results-oriented mindset
- Ability to think creatively and “outside the box” when addressing challenging technical scenarios
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and confident in high-pressure or incident response situations
- Strong analytical and engineering mindset with attention to detail
- Effective communication skills when working with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Desire to contribute to a fast-paced, high-energy, entrepreneurial technology environment
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field preferred
License or Certification (willing to complete in established timeframe)
VMware certifications (VCP/VCAP)
Veeam (VMCE)
