The Systems Engineering Division (SED) provides unmatched experience in systems engineering to the U.S. government and to numerous public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges.
The Acquisition Risk and Forecasting (ARAF) Department applies deep technical expertise and experience to provide situational awareness on business, mission, technology, policy and industrial base risks to program acquisitions and to improve customer acquisition outcomes by helping decision makers understand and mitigate tactical and strategic risks. ARAF delivers program strategic planning and foresighting by assessing threats and leveraging deep insights into market dynamics, economics, supply chain, finance, data analytics, US space needs, engineering, and technology to conduct data driven due diligence assessments and develop critical insights, market intelligence acquisition strategies and risk mitigation approaches. ARAF applies these to inform senior decision makers and enable US Government and Key Partners manage risk and make informed tradeoffs to a) successfully leverage commercial and non-commercial capabilities and b) navigate a rapidly evolving commercial and government space ecosystem.
The Program Strategic Planning and Forecasting capability area in the Acquisition Risk and Forecasting (ARAF) Department concentrates on delivering strategic planning, acquisition, and systems engineering planning expertise and products to form a sound basis for space, ground, and launch system program acquisition lifecycle activities for this growing, geographically distributed department supports a wide range of customers in the National Security, Civil and Commercial, and International Space Communities. We are looking for a Systems Engineer (Systems Engineering - Acquisition and Systems Engineering) to join our team!

Work Model
This is a Full-Time position based in El Segundo, CA, Chantilly, VA, Colorado Springs, CO, or Albuquerque, NM, offering a work model that combines regular onsite workdays and remote flexibility as the business needs allow.
What You'll Be Doing

  • Actively participate with our primary customers within the various Civil, DoD, and Intelligence Community space, ground, and launch systems
  • Perform research and trade studies in the areas of strategic planning, systems engineering, and acquisition
  • Develop or contribute to solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity, referring more sophisticated issues to higher levels.
  • Assist the Government in strategic technical planning, project management, performance engineering, risk management and interface design.
  • Support continuous process improvement efforts to reduce wasted time and redundancy
  • Proactively interact with customers by communicating project status, technical findings, and give technical demonstrations
  • Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed
  • Training and mentorship will be provided


What You Need to be Successful Systems Engineering - Acquisition and Systems Engineering
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or more from an accredited program in engineering, management sciences, computer, or information systems, STEM field
  • 8 years experience
  • Collaborative approach to working in a team environment exhibiting grace and respect, always.
  • Interpersonal, time management, and project management skills, ability to estimate tasks.
  • Self-motivation and initiative, ability to work independently to complete tasks within reasonable timelines.
  • Proven flexibility and ability to adapt focus in response to varying organizational needs.
  • Delivers products requiring specialized technical expertise
    • Serves as a key point of contact for technologies, techniques, or programs for subdivision capabilities
    • Maintains continuous tasking and identifies capability improvements
    • Proactively performs assigned tasks and networks across departments with more autonomy
    • Serves as a mentor to MTS in one or more department capability areas
  • As a Senior Engineering Specialist
    • 10 years experience
    • Independently conducts long-range technical studies and reports findings.
    • Provide new technical solutions within area of expertise.
    • Provides ongoing technical consultation and advice to management, customers, and contractors
    • May lead cross-organizational teams and organizes interfaces with customer and/or Aerospace program offices.
    • May bring in tasks and projects beyond personal activities
    • Acts as organization's designated representative at technical meetings, presentations, and symposia.
  • Willing to travel [occasionally to work location or customer site/domestically/internationally] approx. 10% of the time.
  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.


How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced degree from an accredited program in a relevant field
  • Experience with Government or commercial space operations
  • Experience in systems engineering, other engineering disciplines, Agile software development, digital acquisition, digital engineering, government acquisition, contracting, financial management, or schedule management
  • Familiarity with systems acquisition management disciplines, including but not limited to financial management and contracting

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
