Oh, hello there master of strategery

Funday is a full service agency made up of people who are friendly and hardworking in equal measure. Inspired by an unrelenting belief that having fun is integral to creativity, we like to say we’re all about fun and brains. You know, that sweet spot between where pretty and performance meet and where insight and imagination produce the entirely unexpected? That’s where we thrive.

Senior Strategist

As a senior strategist you will report to the Strategy Director. You bring key strategic leadership and guidance to our team. You’ll be comfortable communicating your findings to varying audiences—from creative to technical. You’re a rock star in — business analysis, qualitative consumer research, and brand and campaign strategy. Most importantly, you live and breathe insights—about a client’s business, their competitors, and their customers.

Location – You will work remotely from anywhere in AB, BC or ON

What you’ll do

  • Own the strategic direction of projects, not just contribute. Set the vision, shape the narrative, and steer the work from first conversation to final presentation
  • Lead multi-layered research programs (qual, quant, cultural, behavioural) and turn complexity into clean, compelling insights the team can actually use
  • Drive brand and comms strategy: positioning, brand architecture, messaging systems, experience frameworks, and campaign platforms.
  • Anticipate client challenges, identify what the team will need before they need it, and shape the strategic plan proactively.
  • Act as the strategic voice in creative development by inspiring ideas, pressure-testing concepts, and ensuring everything ladders to a sharp strategic center
  • Facilitate alignment across clients and teams. Run workshops, lead strategic discussions, and confidently bring groups to decisions.
  • Create POVs on culture, category shifts, and consumer behaviour. Contribute thought leadership that elevates how Funday thinks and talks about brand building
  • Guide measurement and learning plans from a strategic lens, not just tracking performance, but defining what matters for long-term brand growth
  • Lead ecosystem audits and competitive evaluations with a higher-level lens: what’s the brand gap? What’s the cultural opportunity? What’s the strategic unlock?
  • Build trusted relationships with clients as a consultative partner, not just a presenter of insights

What you’ll need to succeed

  • 5+ years of real strategic experience: brand planning, comms strategy, consumer insight, or similar
  • 3+ years of advertising agency experience
  • Proven ability to lead strategy on big projects or brand-defining work, not just support it
  • Exceptional narrative + deck-building skills; you can turn thinking into a story people believe in
  • Strong experience in qualitative and ethnographic research, with the ability to extract meaning beyond the obvious
  • Comfort turning data, culture, and behaviour into POVs, not just reports
  • A strategic voice that can influence clients and creatives, balancing confidence with collaboration
  • Experience shaping brand positioning, frameworks, messaging, and 360 communication systems
  • Ability to guide creatives with clarity, not control, inspiring ideas, not dictating them
  • Excellent facilitation skills: workshops, insight sessions, stakeholder alignment, briefings
  • Leadership presence: calm under pressure, strong in rooms, able to navigate ambiguity with ease
  • Taste and intuition. You know when something feels right, fresh, or strategically sharp
  • Curiosity and craft commitment. Always learning, evolving, questioning, refining

You’ll want to read this part

  • Where you live & can work matters: If you live in Canada, are able to work here, and you are in one of these provinces: BC, AB, or ON - please apply! Otherwise, we’re sorry, we’re not set up to support staff outside of these regions.
  • Lots of postings - only 1 role
    • We post the same role in multiple locations to help us cast a wide net.
    • We are posting a Senior Strategist and a Strategist role in each location to cast that net wider.
    • Applying to each location for a posting will not increase your chances. Now that we've saved you some time, go do something fun!
    • This posting is for an existing vacancy we are looking to fill immediately and not a prospective future role (i.e. we’re saying this isn’t a ghost job).

Come be a Funatic

We believe you won’t perform at your best if you’re not having fun. And you can’t have fun if you’re not performing. We believe that this creates the best client + agency relationships, and is the best way to make great work.

We believe in respect, inclusivity, kindness, equity, and equality. We want to make a positive impact. We believe that collaboration is the fun part of being at work. We strive to create a culture in which “we” is more important than “me”.

Apart from loving terrible fun puns, we’re a start-up, and we're growing fast – which means you’ll have a chance to make your mark and grow with us. We’re also almost 100% remote, and that might not appeal to everyone – but if you value flexibility, it’s perfect.

Join us.
