We are looking for a Senior Staff Technical Program Manager. As Senior Staff Technical Program Manager, you’ll be part of a cross-functional Quantum Operating System team whose mission is to develop software that runs the best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.
This role requires deep cross-functional engagement across our quantum computing organization, especially with teams focusing on the quantum computers software stack and systems integration. You will be responsible for working with other TPMs, Technical Staff, and cross-functional teams to orchestrate the execution and delivery of key functionality for the Quantum Operating System software stack.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Program Leadership: Work with technical leadership to develop and manage software deliverables and integration, aligning with overall business objectives and multi-product timelines. This includes proactively identifying potential risks and mitigation plans. Confirming resources are available to complete tasks, verifying project teams have adequately developed architecture, design and test plans to meet delivery dates. Hands-on deep-dives to address “long-pole” problems in order to keep the program on track.
- Project Execution and Delivery: Apply project management practices to manage timelines, budgets, risks, and resources effectively, ensuring successful project execution and delivery against established milestones. Reporting to appropriate stakeholders and working cross-functionally to resolve any problems.
- Situational Team Leadership: Provide situational leadership to teams, setting clear expectations, removing obstacles, assigning tasks, and proactively managing schedules and risks, especially in critical projects like implementing technology into engineering systems.
- Clear and Concise Communication: Regularly and transparently communicate program status, risks, and mitigation plans to all stakeholders.
- Ability to travel, up to 20% of the time, to support team on site visits in either College Park, MD or Bothell, WA.
You’d be a good fit with:
- Prior experience in Technical Program Management for high-performing teams delivering complex hardware/software products.
- Degree in Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
- 12+ years of experience as a Technical Program Manager, with a proven track record of successfully managing complex projects like quantum computing, robotics, aerospace, autonomous vehicles.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen eye for detail and an innovative mindset.
- Proven ability to not only thrive but lead in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies, such as Git/Hub, Jira/Confluence, Microsoft Project, SmartSheet, etc.
- Passion for quantum computing and the desire to be at the forefront of groundbreaking technological advancements.
You’d be a great fit with:
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or related certification
- Working knowledge of quantum computing concepts, principles, and technologies
Location: This position can work onsite or hybrid from one of our offices (College Park, MD, Bothell, WA) or fully remote in the US.
Travel: Up to 10%
The approximate base salary range for this position is $162,920 - $213,304. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, and equity.
Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Beyond base salary, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component and a range of benefit options found on our career site at ionq.co/jobs. IonQ's HQ is located in College Park, Maryland, just outside of Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in Bothell, WA (near Seattle). Depending on the position, you may be required to be near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, Toronto, Canada, and Basel, Switzerland.
