Job Description

The Senior Staff Medical Science Liaison (Senior Staff MSL) will support academic and community physicians (KOLs) by sharing the latest research and clinical data to promote the company's products. They will engage with KOLs to educate and develop presentations for scientific forums, CME events, and speaker training; translate research data into educational content for various events; supporting marketing, commercial operations, and sales teams. Additionally, the Senior Staff MSL will identify research collaborations with KOLs and actively conduct research studies to promote scientific excellence Lastly, the Senior Staff MSL may assist the Director deploying ad hoc strategic initiatives to broader MSL and/or Medical Affairs staff.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) Develop strong, professional relationships with key academic and community-based physicians to promote a deeper understanding of the company’s diagnostic technologies and products.
  • Work closely with KOLs to increase their awareness of the products, facilitating their involvement in scientific discussions and potential collaboration in clinical settings.
  • Create, update, and present educational content (such as slides, abstracts, and research findings) to KOLs, ensuring that the latest scientific data and product information are effectively communicated.
  • Coordinate and lead presentations at academic and scientific meetings, including national and regional conferences, grand rounds, and Continuing Medical Education (CME) events. This includes ensuring that the content is well-aligned with the company’s goals and the needs of the audience.
  • Serve as the clinical expert and primary resource for the Sales & Marketing teams, ensuring they are up-to-date on scientific data, clinical benefits, and competitive positioning of the company’s products.
  •  Provide regular updates, scientific briefings, and participate in journal clubs, teleconferences, or team meetings to share the latest research findings and product information.
  • Work closely with the marketing and managed care teams to engage KOLs in various initiatives, such as outreach to healthcare professionals and insurance providers to promote product adoption.
  • Mobilize physician calls, letters, or educational initiatives targeting payers and insurers to ensure alignment with the company’s commercial objectives.
  • Serve as MSL Lead to cross-functional planning and facilitation of Clinical Advisory Boards where KOLs and other experts provide feedback on research, products, and strategies. Ensure that the outcomes from these Clinical Advisory Boards are implemented effectively to guide medical affairs and commercial decisions.
  • Collaborate on scientific forums and focus groups Identify and coordinate opportunities for the Medical Affairs and Marketing teams to work with KOLs in scientific forums, focus groups, and PR events, allowing for deeper insights into clinical challenges, potential product improvements, and market needs.
  • Partner with public relations and media efforts by ensuring that KOLs are involved in events that help position the company’s products and science in the marketplace.
  • Conduct research with Guardant datasets alongside collaborators and champion effective scientific writing for effective data submissions to peer-reviewed journals and top global oncology conferences

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a university degree and typically 12 years of related experience; 8 years and a Master’s degree; 5 years and a PhD; or 3 years and a PharmD/MD.
  • Previous MSL experience required, knowledge of biotechnology, diagnostics, and pharmaceuticals.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Residential home-based office with ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
  • Significant travel to meet with KOLs, attend events, and conferences up to 75% travel.

Additional Information

Hybrid Work Model: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We have found aligning our scheduled in-office days allows our teams to do the best work and creates the focused thinking time our innovative work requires. At Guardant, our work model has created flexibility for better work-life balance while keeping teams connected to advance our science for our patients.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $180,200 to $247,800. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries across all US locations for the posted role with the exception of any locations specifically referenced below (if any).

Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
