Senior Spatial Database Administrator (ArcGIS)

Position Overview
We are seeking an accomplished Senior Spatial Database Administrator with advanced expertise in ArcGIS and enterprise geospatial data systems to lead the development, administration, and optimization of spatial and alphanumeric databases in both on-premises and hybrid cloud environments. This role is responsible for designing and maintaining robust data models, ensuring secure and efficient database operations, and supporting geospatial editing workflows across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in managing enterprise geodatabases, publishing geospatial web services, and integrating ArcGIS with relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as SQL Server and PostgreSQL/PostGIS, while also leveraging cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure and AWS.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain enterprise geodatabases using ArcGIS Enterprise and RDBMS platforms including SQL Server and PostgreSQL/PostGIS
Administer spatial and alphanumeric data, including schema design, indexing, versioning, and optimization of geospatial databases
Develop and manage data models, stored procedures, and advanced SQL/T-SQL queries to support enterprise GIS operations
Publish, manage, and secure geospatial web services for editing and analysis using ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and Geoserver
Implement and oversee database configuration, backup strategies, and disaster recovery procedures to ensure data resilience and continuity
Integrate on-premises and cloud-based spatial data environments, leveraging Azure and AWS storage, processing, and analytics capabilities
Collaborate with GIS analysts, developers, and stakeholders to define data requirements, ensure quality control, and support enterprise GIS initiatives
Develop comprehensive documentation for database architecture, workflows, and security protocols
Stay current with advancements in spatial database technologies, ArcGIS capabilities, and cloud-based geospatial solutions, applying best practices to improve performance and scalability
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline
Minimum of four years of experience managing Enterprise Geodatabases on SQL Server and PostgreSQL/PostGIS, including instance management and performance tuning
At least three years of experience publishing and managing geospatial web services using ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online
Proficiency with SQL, T-SQL, and database procedural code for developing queries, triggers, and stored procedures
Experience with database security, user permissions, and role-based access control in enterprise environments
Knowledge of hybrid cloud environments, including integration of ArcGIS with Azure or AWS for spatial data storage and analytics
Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with open-source GIS content management platforms (e.g., Geoserver, QGIS Server)
Certifications such as Esri Enterprise Administration Professional or Microsoft/AWS cloud certifications
Familiarity with geospatial metadata standards (FGDC, ISO 19115) and federal data governance frameworks
Experience supporting enterprise GIS environments in federal, state, or large-scale enterprise settings
Knowledge of scripting and automation for database management (e.g., Python, PowerShell)
