Position Summary

The Senior Solution Architect plays a critical role in designing and implementing innovative digital solutions to enhance the performance and reliability of MPC’s Operational Facilities. This role blends Information Technology and Operational Technology expertise to drive strategic advancements and support mission-critical operations. The ideal candidate will align solutions with enterprise architecture standards, assess and integrate emerging technologies, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, and aligned with business goals. Strong leadership, business acumen, and Oil & Gas industry experience are highly valued in this role.


This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

·         Define and drive the overall solution architecture strategy and roadmap for business initiatives.

·         Serve as a coordinating architectural advisor for cross functional solution delivery, collaborating with business stakeholders, Enterprise and System Architects to ensure cohesive, value-driven designs.

·         Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with business and architecture strategies.

·         Mentor and guide teams in solution architecture best practices across applicable Architecture Domains (Business, Application, Technology. Information and Security architecture).

·         Resolve complex integration and alignment challenges across systems.

·         Represent solution architecture in business and IT strategy discussions.

·         Bridge business needs and technical implementation, ensuring solutions solve the core business problem

Education and Experience

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, related field or equivalent experience required.

·         Five (5) or more years of relevant IT experience, including two (2) or more years of relevant architecture experience required.

  • Experience in Solution Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, or Digital Architecture, with a strong focus on designing and delivering solutions within Microsoft Azure cloud environments preferred.
  • Experience architecting and implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions, including Azure AI services, Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and emerging AI/ML architecture patterns preferred.
  • Experience in data architecture, including enterprise data platforms, data modeling, system integration patterns, data governance, data quality, and master data management (MDM) preferred.
  • Experience developing scalable, secure, and resilient architecture solutions that align business objectives, technology strategies, and enterprise architecture standards.
  • Experience translating complex business requirements into cloud, data, and AI-enabled technology solutions that drive innovation and business value preferred.

AI encompasses a broad range of techniques and approaches, including machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, computer vision, robotics, and expert systems, among others. The ultimate goal of AI is to create machines that can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as understanding natural language, recognizing patterns, making decisions, and solving problems.

In essence, machine learning algorithms learn from patterns and relationships in data to make predictions, decisions, or identify patterns, often with the goal of optimizing some objective function or improving performance over time.·        
  • Process Orchestration - Process orchestration refers to the coordination and management of various tasks, activities, and resources within a workflow or business process. It involves organizing, sequencing, and automating individual tasks or sub-processes to ensure that the overall process operates smoothly and efficiently. Process orchestration typically involves integrating disparate systems, applications, and services to streamline operations and improve collaboration across different parts of an organization. It often employs workflow management tools, automation software, and integration platforms to facilitate communication, data exchange, and decision-making among different components of the process. The goal of process orchestration is to optimize the flow of work, minimize delays and bottlenecks, and enhance overall productivity and performance. 
  • Solution Architecture - Solution architecture is the process of designing and describing the structure and behavior of a comprehensive solution to meet specific business needs. It involves integrating various components, technologies, and processes to create a coherent and efficient system that addresses the identified challenges or requirements.
  • Strategic Outlook - Examines issues, generates ideas, creates future scenarios and develops plans with a long-term perspective. Ensures short-term goals support long-term strategy and that organizational/functional strategy aligns with and supports MPC’s overall business strategy.    
  • Systems Thinking - The ability to analyze complex systems and understand their interdependencies, considering both technical and business aspects, to develop comprehensive and scalable architectures.
