Duties & Responsibilities:

Summary: 

Work with a world-class team of engineers to develop, deliver, and support a suite of products intended to help the world’s largest Enterprises ensure that their networks are running smoothly and securely. As a Quality Assurance Engineer at Viavi, you will be working to ensure each product release meets high quality standards along with customer needs.  Our products run on Linux and Windows and are deployed in a wide variety of environments from bare metal to cloud SaaS and everything in betweenWe operate in a fast paced, agile, team-oriented environment where we expect you to make meaningful contributions on day one.  

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure quality software releases that are stable, maintain performance requirements, and are free of major issues

  • Testing of Windows thick client applications as well as web-based applications running in both Windows and Linux

  • Be the voice of the customer throughout the development cycle

  • Execute the test strategy containing both manual and automated test suites

  • Challenge your skillset by learning scripting to assist in automated test efforts when applicable

  • Monitor the CI/CD process and ensure it is continually functioning and meeting the evolving needs of the teams and business

  • Participate in a team culture that encourages productivity, engagement, and product ownership

  • Log bugs and provide input for bug triage using Atlassian Jira

  • Continue to build upon the overall test strategy by adding new test suites using Xray for Jira

  • Mentor and grow your peers, challenge 'the norm', and bring fresh ideas to the test process with an eye towards efficiency

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Basic Qualifications: 

  • 3-5+ years of relevant software QA experience

  • Demonstrated competence working in a fast-paced agile process with cross-functional project teams

  • A proven ability to initiate and drive forward software quality in an Agile environment

  • Detail oriented, reliable, and have the ability to work both in a team environment and alone with minimal supervision

  • Experience with all phases of software testing (Functional, Performance, Integration, Regression, User Acceptance, and Release Management)

  • Experience testing web-based client-server systems

  • Experience testing desktop-based services and systems in Microsoft windows

  • Ability to adjust and set priorities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work effectively in a professional manner with technology staff and all levels of management

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of Network Performance Management and Diagnostics Products (NPMD)

  • Knowledge of distributed software systems 

  • Familiarity with networking and TCP/IP

  • Experience with layer 7 protocols and their inner workings (3-pane decodes), request/response sequences, etc

  • Network architectures and what impacts their performance

  • Proficiency in Atlassian Jira, XRay, Bamboo, and BitBucket tools

  • Scripting skills (python, bash, batch, powershell, VB, etc)

  • Experience with system-level optimization as well as VM management and deployment
