You will work on Percona's open-source tools for MongoDB and related components, developing new products, features, and bug fixes in close collaboration with the Percona Server for MongoDB team.

You will work from your home office, using online tools and resources to contribute to a fast-moving and high-performing development environment for Percona and its customers.

Access to a reliable high-speed internet connection is required. Flexible work hours.

What Will You Do:
  • Collaborate with a geographically distributed team to design and implement new products and tools around MongoDB.

  • Participate in code reviews to ensure high-quality software. Engage with the broader MongoDB open-source community by submitting and reviewing pull requests (PRs) and addressing issues the community raises.

  • Work closely with product managers, QA teams, and community contributors to shape Percona’s tools roadmap and prioritize features that bring the most outstanding value.

  • Build robust and resilient database solutions focusing on ensuring data integrity, fault tolerance, and high availability across distributed systems.

  • Contribute to upstream projects we leverage to bring our solutions to the community.

  • Serve as a mentor to junior developers, guiding best practices in software design, coding, testing, and debugging, particularly in large-scale distributed database systems.

  • Blog, present, and evangelize our software to help increase adoption and keep our thriving community growing

  • Engage with other departments in Percona to ensure we’re delivering value-driven solutions.

What Have You Done:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Go development and object-oriented design with a strong understanding of SOLID, KISS, and DRY principles

  • Strong knowledge of NoSQL databases and large-scale distributed systems, preferably MongoDB, as well as ACID and replication

  • Strong understanding of replication and sharding techniques

  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI, and Travis

  • Knowledge of various programming and scripting  languages such as BASH, Perl, and Python

  • Working with tools like profiler, gdb, and strace for debugging

  • Proven experience with AI/ML technologies and a strong enthusiasm for building intelligent systems

What Will Make You Stand Out:
  • Development experience with high-performance, scalable backup and restore solutions, distributed environments, optimizing concurrency, data compression, and encryption algorithms to handle multi-terabyte databases with minimal performance degradation across distributed sharded environments

  • Your active participation in the MongoDB or similar open-source community and proven track record of code contributions will set you apart

  • Experience in Linux systems administration, including suitable expertise with file systems, hardware, and networking

Communication, Travel, and Remote Collaboration

As a globally distributed, remote-first company, Percona thrives on active communication and collaboration. While you'll be working from your home office, engaging openly and proactively with your team is absolutely crucial. We value lively discussions, the sharing of ideas, and transparent updates on your work. To foster a strong team environment, we expect consistent communication via our primary tools, including Slack, Zoom, and Jira. This ensures we stay connected, aligned, and support each other effectively, even across time zones. While travel is not a consistent requirement, there may be occasional opportunities for conferences or team meetups, where we come together in person to strengthen our bonds and strategic alignment.

Typical Day as a Senior Software Engineer MongoDB (Go) at Percona:

Working Environment and Planning:

At Percona, we prioritize a structured work environment to support your focus and flow. We plan our work within defined timeframes and scopes, minimizing shifting priorities to allow you to concentrate on predefined tasks. Planning is a collaborative effort, involving the team, Product, and customer insights. We're also dedicated to your growth: Fridays are designated no-meeting days, providing dedicated time for deep work, tackling challenging issues, or exploring new technologies.

Morning (flexible, as you own your schedule): Begin by checking Slack, Email, and Jira for updates. Focus on development tasks: coding, testing, and code reviews for MongoDB tools. Respond to open and outstanding requests if needed.

Mid-Day: Lunch break and casual Slack interactions. Resume development, attend (if scheduled) technical discussions, planning, or join a brief team sync (Zoom). Provide mentorship to junior engineers.

Afternoon: Continue development. Research and learn new technologies. Plan for the next day and wrap up tasks.

Key Points: Expect consistent communication via Slack, Zoom, and Jira. Active participation in the team's rituals is a must. Continuous learning and problem-solving are core to the role. Flexible work hours around potentially prescheduled team syncs or customer meetings. We don’t hire you, so we tell you exactly what and how to do it. We hire you so you can solve problems. You’re the expert, so we need your skills and thinking on how to solve problems in the best way possible.
