Job Description

The Opportunity:

We are expanding our LatAm teams by establishing a new São Paulo engineering hub, building new, high-impact teams on the ground. We are looking for an ambitious and highly skilled Senior+/Staff engineer to be among the first members of these local teams. This is a unique opportunity to be a foundational member of our São Paulo engineering hub, helping to shape our local culture, processes, and technical direction. You will play a crucial role in developing and enhancing products, specifically for Brazil customers, while collaborating closely with our global teams, to contribute to the evolution of our KYC/KYB and money movement platform.

Your Role:

As a Senior+/Staff Engineer based in our new São Paulo engineering hub, you will be a core member of the Brazil Regional team focused on improving our products for the Brazilian market and expanding our global offering to meet local needs. You will work on critical areas like enhancing our Brazil Business and Consumer offering, optimizing the PIX experience, implementing integrations with banks, payment providers, identity/business verification vendors, and other local partners, connecting our platform to various local payment systems, optimizing onboarding funnels, and handling the complexities of moving money across countries.

This role requires a high level of technical and product excellence and a passion for building high-quality, scalable, and compliant solutions within the Brazilian context. You won't just be writing code; you will be instrumental in proposing robust technical designs, conducting thorough code and design reviews, and collaborating closely with engineers in other global offices to ensure our systems effectively serve our growing Brazilian customer base while actively contributing to the improvement and evolution of our global platform.

You will have the chance to significantly influence the technical direction and help build a best-in-class engineering organisation right here in São Paulo, leveraging your experience to mentor and coach other team members as we grow the engineering teams in this new hub. You will also collaborate closely with other LatAm engineering teams being established within the São Paulo hub.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy features and services specifically tailored for the Brazilian market, with a focus on the Brazil Business, Consumer, and PIX experience.

  • Propose and advocate for high-quality technical designs and solutions that are scalable, reliable, and compliant with local regulations.

  • Conduct rigorous code and design reviews, providing constructive feedback to maintain and elevate our engineering standards globally.

  • Implement integrations with local banks, payment providers, identity/business verification vendors, and financial partners across the region.

  • Automate and improve onboarding workflows and compliance checks (KYC/KYB) for different customer types.

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and engineers in our other global offices, to align on product vision and technical implementation.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, ensuring the stability and performance of our systems.

  • Contribute to the technical strategy and roadmap for your area of ownership within the Brazil Regional team.

  • Act as a technical leader and mentor within the São Paulo engineering hub, helping to onboard and guide new engineers.

  • Stay updated on relevant Brazilian and LatAm market trends, payment systems, and regulatory requirements to inform product development and ensure compliance.

Qualifications

  • A proactive and ambitious mindset, with a desire to take ownership and make a significant impact.
  • Proven experience as a Staff Engineer, with a strong track record of delivering high-quality, scalable systems and a strong Product mindset.

  • Highly autonomous individuals that are able to find and execute on the most impactful opportunities.

  • Deep technical expertise in back-end development and microservices architecture.

  • Java proficiency.

  • Experience in designing and building complex software systems and collaborating on architectural decisions.

  • Strong ability to provide constructive feedback during code and design reviews.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to break down complex challenges.

  • Experience collaborating with distributed or global teams.

  • A passion for mentoring and coaching engineers and contributing to team growth.

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working with the PIX payment system in Brazil.

  • Familiarity with Brazilian and/or LatAm financial regulations and compliance requirements.

  • Experience in the FinTech or payments industry.

What Success Looks Like:

In this role, success means not only delivering impactful product improvements for our Brazilian customers and contributing to our global product's evolution but also actively contributing to building a strong, high-performing engineering team and culture in our new São Paulo engineering hub. As a foundational member of the local teams, you will have helped shape technical standards, mentored colleagues, and played a key role in establishing our engineering presence in São Paulo and integrating it with our global organisation, all while driving our mission forward in Brazil.
