Collectors is the leading creator of innovative technology that provides value-added services for collectors worldwide. We grade, authenticate, vault, and sell millions of record-setting collectibles, all while modernizing and digitalizing the process to further our mission of helping collectors pursue their passions. We’re always on the lookout for talented people to join our growing team.
Our services span collectible trading cards, autographs, comic books, coins, video games, event tickets, and memorabilia. Our subsidiaries include PSA, PCGS, Beckett, SGC, and Card Ladder.
Since our founding in 1986, we have graded and authenticated millions of items. We employ more than 3000 people across our headquarters in Santa Ana, California and offices in New Jersey, Texas, Florida, Japan, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Canada, Mexico, Germany, and France.
As part of our interview process, we request that candidates have their cameras on during video interviews. This helps foster meaningful conversation and allows us to create an experience that closely resembles our standard working environment. Certain interview steps may take place by phone. For remote roles, and at our discretion, candidates may be asked to participate in an on-site interview as part of the final stages of the process.
We understand there may be occasional circumstances requiring accommodation and are happy to discuss them as needed. Your recruiter will be able to clarify expectations and answer any questions you have.
About the Role
The Power Packs engineering team is responsible for building and operating the customer-facing Power Packs experience, the backend services and internal tools that power pack configuration and purchases, and the integrations with adjacent collection systems that support the full pack lifecycle.
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who can help build the shared data foundations that power flexible, scalable marketplace experiences across our platform. This role is especially well-suited for an engineer who is strong in databases, replication, and backend systems design, and who enjoys partnering across teams to support new product capabilities. Your work will directly shape how we model data for white-label experiences, integrate with core platform services, and expand support for new collectible types.
We believe there is significant value in onsite partnership and team collaboration, and candidates within 1-hour commuting distance of the office may be expected to work onsite most of the time. Additional details will be discussed during the recruiting process.
What You’ll Do
Participate across the entire software development lifecycle, taking features from concept to production release
Contribute backend and fullstack plumbing where needed to connect services, APIs, and product experiences end to end
Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and partner teams to translate business requirements into clean technical designs
Troubleshoot data, integration, and service issues across a large distributed codebase
Contribute to technical documentation to improve maintainability and team velocity
Help raise the bar on system design, observability, and engineering best practices across the team
Leverage AI tooling, with a preference for Claude, to accelerate software design, architecture, and implementation while maintaining strong engineering judgment and code quality
Who You Are
5+ years of software engineering experience building backend or data-intensive systems in production environments
4+ years experience / strong proficiency in Java and the Spring Boot framework
Strong fundamentals working with databases and data modeling, both relational (e.g. PostgreSQL) & NoSQL (e.g. DynamoDB)
Experience with building applications in the cloud with AWS and experience with serverless infrastructure such as AWS Lambda
Experience with containerization and orchestration infrastructure (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, ECS)
Experience collaborating with Engineering and Product teams to turn complex business requirements into clean and extensible APIs
Possess strong technical, analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills with the ability to visualize and document processes
Proficient at using appropriate security, documentation, and/or monitoring best practices
Familiar with Agile/Scrum methodologies
Comfortable using AI tooling, preferably Claude, to support solution design, system architecture, and software implementation in day-to-day engineering work
Nice to Have
Experience supporting white-label or multi-tenant product architectures
Experience with distributed messaging systems such as Apache Kafka
Experience with Python as well as test frameworks such as pytest or unittest
