Build the backbone of supersonic design
At Boom, your customers aren’t faceless users behind a login screen. They’re the aerospace engineers you’ll be embedded with every day, designing the next generation of supersonic flight. The challenge isn’t just building tools - it’s pulling together design models, parts data, supplier info, and production plans into a single, coherent system that accelerates everything we do. Where traditional aerospace drowns in siloed systems and disconnected data, you’ll help us turn integration into our superpower. If you want to see your code directly speed up the path from concept to carbon fiber, this is your chance!
Role Overview
- Integrate core systems for design, parts, supply chain, and production into a single connected workflow.
- Build full-stack internal apps that give engineers a clear, intuitive interface to act on complex data.
- Design pragmatic data models that make cross-discipline engineering and manufacturing data reliable and traceable.
- Develop APIs, services, and adapters to move and transform data across tools that were never meant to talk to each other.
- Expose complex engineering and production data in ways that improve visibility, decision-making, and speed for the entire team.
- Collaborate directly with aerospace engineers, embedding in their teams to translate workflow needs into working software.
- Iterate quickly with engineers, shipping incremental improvements that accelerate workflows week by week.
- Deliver solutions end-to-end, from quick prototypes to production-ready, monitored, and documented systems.
- Shape the foundations of Boom’s design-to-build platform, influencing how future aircraft will be designed and built.
The Ideal Candidate
- Zero-to-one builder — founder energy with a track record of actually shipping products and adapting quickly.
- Backend engineering expertise in APIs, services, and integrations (Python, Node.js, or similar), with experience handling authentication (e.g. OAuth, JWTs) and working with third-party SDKs.
- Frontend development skills with modern frameworks (React/TypeScript or equivalent) to build clean, responsive UIs for internal users.
- Database fluency across relational and document stores (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, etc.), with strong skills in schema design, migrations, and query optimization.
- Data integration experience, including ETL pipelines, event-driven architectures, or messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS).
- Cloud and DevOps know-how with AWS or another major provider, plus CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, etc.) and containerization (e.g. Docker).
- Collaboration mindset, comfortable embedding directly with engineering teams and translating workflow pain points into software solutions.
- Adaptability and ownership, thriving in ambiguity and eager to build systems from scratch in a fast-moving startup environment.
What Will Set You Apart
- Experience working in industries where software and hardware deeply intersect (aerospace, automotive, robotics, or advanced manufacturing).
- Familiarity with engineering and production systems such as CAD, PLM, ERP, or MES - even if only from integration or API exposure.
- Background building robust data pipelines, event-driven systems, or real-time dashboards that span multiple data sources.
- Comfort introducing engineering best practices (testing frameworks, observability, performance monitoring) into greenfield internal platforms.
- Passion for working directly with end users, watching how they work, and iterating to make tools that feel tailor-made.
Compensation
The Base Salary Range for this position is $140,000 - $177,000 per year. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include long-term incentives/equity, a flexible PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
There is no set deadline to apply for this job opportunity. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the search is no longer active.
