Vero was founded in 2017 with a focus on bridging the digital divide by serving schools and libraries in unserved and underserved areas. We have also established a fiber to the premises business that directly serves residential and small business customers in underserved regions. In addition, we now serve a small subset of large business and wholesale customers - which we typically use as a springboard for our consumer focused services for underserved communities. Our management team brings decades of experience in building and operating fiber networks for various customer segments, including residential, business, and wholesale clients. 

This position is remote (within the United States) and responsible for overall project management (schedule and budget) for multiple large fiber optic construction projects. Reports to Regional Director of Operations.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversight of acquisition process for long haul deployment facilities, including management of vendors, analyzing segment distances to identify target site areas, and negotiating and coordinating agreements with land owners for the acquisition of properties.
  • Coordinating with vendors and reviewing documentation such as title reports, surveys, ALTA commitments, phase 1 ESA reports, geotechnical surveys and reports.
  • Coordinating documentation between title companies, legal firms, vendors, and owners, including the closing of the final site acquisition agreements. 
  • Procurement of critical infrastructure components and electrical utility to each site, and gaining necessary municipal and environmental approvals. 
  • Oversight of the site construction process, including telecom shelter placement, telecom shelter integration, and site test, turn up and handoff..
  • Identification of candidate OSP engineering/construction firms, managing bid/vendor selection process and contract negotiation.
  • Performing service delivery functions, including providing regular customer updates (written and/or oral), coordinating site access, and close out package preparation
  • Working with local/state/federal permitting agencies to secure timely permit approvals and managing environmental engineering vendors and related subcontractors as they secure related permitting 
  • Documenting splicing requirements and maintaining fiber engineering documentation
  • Tactical project management, including managing project schedules, running regular project calls and performing support project functions (such as securing bonds, internal signatures for permits, etc.)
  • Providing build cost estimates for sales team
  • Maintaining up-to-date network maps in Vero’s proprietary geospatial project management platform, including in-flight design changes and final as-built routes
  • Providing accurate network maps to state 811 agencies and Vero Networks NOC as well as provide configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting details for operations

 

  • QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ years’ experience in project management or engineering
  • 2+ years’ experience of ILA project management, ideally with long haul experience
  • Strong familiarity with remote in-line amplification site components such as generators, HVAC, AC and DC systems and components.
  • Strong familiarity with telecom shelter alarms, security and monitoring systems. 
  • Ability to develop detailed project schedules and manage work activities to ensure timely completion
  • Strong planning skills, including ability to anticipate and mitigate project risk

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Geospatial Information System (GIS) experience and spatial data analysis. 
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong communications and vendor management skills
  • Strong fiber project management skills 
  • Experience navigating NEPA, CEQA, Section 106, etc processes
  • BS degree preferred
