As the Product Director, Reach, you will lead the 0-to-1 build of Riverside's Reach platform — the next generation of the CogAT assessment and set the long-term roadmap for the Potential & Placement portfolio. You'll turn customer and market insight into a validated product strategy, then align Engineering, Psychometrics, and Content partners to deliver it, expanding what Riverside can offer without disrupting the customers who rely on us today.
This is the first time in years Riverside has built a product from the ground up, on a platform the board and executive leadership is directly invested in. You'll report to the Sr. Director of Product for the Potential & Placement vertical in a player-coach capacity, partnering closely with a team of 6-8 engineers, 3-4 psychometricians, and 2-3 content specialists.
Role Summary and Responsibilities
- Lead the 0-to-1 build of the Reach platform, from defining and validating personas through customer discovery to a pilot launch in Fall 2027
- Ensure requirements trace to validated customer problems, keeping scope disciplined and pilot-ready
- Build the value proposition and right-to-win narrative for the platform, and gain leadership sign-off ahead of pilot
- Own the next-generation CogAT assessment platform build end-to-end, from requirements through pilot and full 2028 launch
- Build and execute the customer migration strategy for existing CogAT customers, minimizing churn
- Partner with Product Marketing on go-to-market planning and positioning — providing customer and problem input, without owning GTM strategy or execution
- Partner with the Senior Director of Product to finalize pricing and packaging
- Set the 2-3 year roadmap for the Reach platform, including the next-iteration platform build strategy for the Iowa Assessments
- Partner with Research and Content teams on content requirements, and with Engineering on platform/architecture requirements
- Hold cross-functional teams accountable to milestones, and sequence competing priorities across the Reach build, CogAT relaunch, and Iowa roadmap
- Manage and develop a Senior Product Manager while staying hands-on in core product work
- Deliver monthly written and live updates to stakeholders and executive leadership covering progress, risks, and decisions needed
- Define and track leading indicators of platform health (e.g., activation rate, time-to-integrate, support volume), distinct from revenue
- Partner with CX and Sales on enablement and training ahead of launch — does not own the sales-facing narrative
Requirements
Must-Have Qualifications
- 8+ years in product management, with demonstrated tenure at prior companies (not a pattern of short stints)
- Has taken a product from 0-to-1 — built and successfully launched a piece of software from concept to market
- Prior experience at the Senior Product Manager or Director level
- Experience managing or mentoring product talent (1-3 direct reports) and building an execution team
- Strong technical fluency — able to hold a real conversation with engineering about architecture tradeoffs and translate them clearly for non-technical stakeholders
- Track record partnering with (not owning) GTM, sales, and marketing functions
- Has made build/buy/partner calls before and can explain how the decision shifts with 2x or 0.5x the budget
- Executive presence — able to present to and earn buy-in from senior leadership
- Proficiency with Jira, Asana, and Tableau
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in education, edtech, or assessment-based products
- Experience building a platform or product from early-stage concept through launch in a high-growth or transformation environment
- Familiarity with evaluating API/developer experience — documentation, versioning, backward compatibility
- MBA or advanced degree in a related field
Physical Requirements
- Remote
- Travel 1 to 2 times a year for off-site team meetings or conferences
- May require stationary positions, sitting or standing, for extended periods
