Job Description

The Senior Product Engineer (Java/Spring Boot) architects and designs their digital products using modern tools, technologies, frameworks, and systems. They apply a systematic application of scientific and technological knowledge, methods, and experience to the design, implementation, testing, and documentation of software. They own and manage running their application in production, and ultimately becomes accountable for the success of their digital products through achieving KPIs. Product Engineers at Allstate are considered Software Engineers.
In this role, you will support the Enterprise Payments organization, which is responsible for ensuring Allstate customers can seamlessly process a wide range of payment solutions.
The internal Allstate job title used for this role is Software Engineer Lead Consultant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in inceptions and iteration planning meetings, infusing backlogs with technical input working in close partnership with the product manager.

  • Participates in daily site, cross-site, and product team standups.

  • Participates in retrospectives, demonstrating and encouraging each participant to provide feedback with empathy.

  • Collaborate with team in high-level and low-level component and system designs

  • Collaborate in performance improvements and tech review meetings

  • Practices daily paired programming and test-driven development in writing software and building products

  • Establishes continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment pipelines and practices

  • Support software products in user environments

  • Participates in knowledge sharing, and contributes to the overall growth of the collective knowledge of the team

Qualifications

  • 5 years or more experience and knowledge in developing REST APIs using Java Spring Boot, including tooling for documentation (Swagger, REST-docs, Open API spec), versioning, service discovery/registration, testing and management; experience using API gateways and REACT is a plus.

  • Hands on experience and accountability architecting, designing, implementing and delivering large scale distributed systems and/or applications for the cloud, including Micro Services architectures.

  • Experience and knowledge in web and API security including authentication, authorization, OAuth, OWASP, OpenID, and SAML.

  • Experience in backend development design and implementation, database (SQL, caching) and Kafka messaging. 

  • Knowledge and experience using distributed version control systems (Git), artifact management systems, build and packaging systems (Maven, Gradle, NPM, Artifactory, etc.) and Jenkins or similar Continuous Integration tools.

  • Experience of working in an Agile environment or paired programming/engineering model.

  • Experience with Python is a plus.

  • Experience with the Test-Driven approach and writing unit tests for front to back coverage.

  • Experience with problem-solving and analyzing performance bottlenecks.

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is 100,000.00 - 170,500.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
