Senior Product Designer

Remote (Full Time)

Compensation: $145,000-$155,000 (per year)

About Us

Zócalo Health is a tech-enabled, community-oriented primary care organization serving people who have historically been underserved by the one-size-fits-all  healthcare system. We partner with health plans, providers, and community organizations to deliver culturally competent primary care, behavioral health, and social care.

Our model is built for populations with high medical and social complexity, where fragmented care drives poor outcomes and unnecessary cost. We combine local, community-based teams with virtual care and modern technology to deliver coordinated, whole-person care where members live and receive support.

Founded in 2021, Zócalo Health is backed by leading healthcare and mission-aligned investors and is scaling rapidly across states and populations. We are building a durable care platform designed to perform in constrained healthcare environments and to lead the shift toward accountable, value-based care.

Role Description

The Senior Product Designer will join Zócalo Health at a pivotal stage in our growth. As we expand across programs, partners, and geographies, the usability and coherence of our internal tools and workflows directly impact care quality, team sustainability, and our ability to scale responsibly.

As a founding member of the Product team, you will establish the foundational design layer that supports how care is delivered at Zócalo. Today, we do not have a formal design system or documented UX patterns. This role exists to bring structure, clarity, and consistency to our product experience while remaining deeply grounded in real-world care delivery.

You will design workflow-heavy tools used daily by Community Health Workers, clinicians, care coordinators, and operations teams, translating complex, constrained processes into intuitive, usable experiences. Your work spans operational workflow tools and data-facing surfaces that give care teams and leaders visibility into performance. In parallel, you will partner closely with your manager and cross-functional leads to prototype and visualize future-state experiences, helping leadership see where the platform is headed and what to build next

This position reports to the VP of Product.

What You’ll Do

  • Establish UX guidelines, interaction patterns, and a lightweight design system that engineering teams (in-house and contract) can build against
  • Own end-to-end design for care team workflows including outreach, intake, scheduling, and care coordination +  member-facing touchpoints
  • Design reporting and data visualization surfaces that give care teams and operational leaders visibility into performance and workflows
  • Translate complex, real-world operational processes into simple, usable product experiences
  • Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineering, and Operations to ensure designs are feasible, adopted, and meaningfully improve how teams work
  • Create exploratory designs and prototypes to pressure-test ideas and support future-state product vision
  • Improve usability and consistency across existing MVPs through targeted, high-impact design improvements

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of product design experience, ideally in workflow-heavy, operational, or healthcare-adjacent domains
  • Proficiency in Figma (or equivalent) and comfort using AI-enabled design tooling (e.g., Figma AI, generative prototyping tools) to accelerate workflows
  • Experience designing internal tools or complex systems, not only consumer or marketing products
  • Strong ability to simplify complex processes into intuitive experiences
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous, early-stage environments where structure must be created
  • Experience collaborating closely with Product Managers and Engineers with an understanding of how designs translate into shipped software
  • Strong communication skills and ability to articulate design rationale

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare, Medicaid, or value-based care environments
  • Familiarity with designing for frontline or non-technical users (e.g., Community Health Workers, care coordinators)
  • Experience building or evolving a design system pragmatically in an early-stage org
  • Experience designing bilingual or culturally sensitive user experiences (Spanish a plus)
  • Experience designing dashboard, reporting, or data visualization interfaces
  • Familiarity with EHR or clinical workflow constraints

What you can expect from Zócalo Health

  • Equity compensation package
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision
  • 401k
  • Flexible PTO policy - take the time you need to recharge
  • $1,000 home office stipend
  • We provide the equipment needed for this role.
  • Opportunity for rapid career progression with plenty of room for personal growth.

You must be authorized to work in the United States. Remote Work can be done from anywhere in the U.S.
