What is Loancrate?

We started Loancrate to make home-buying simpler and less expensive for lenders and borrowers. Today, mortgage lenders are stuck running their companies on software products built 20 years ago. These products are slow, unstable, and don't lead to material improvements in efficiency. When using these systems, the average human cost to originate a loan is still over $11,000.

Loancrate builds AI-native tooling to automate mortgage workflows. Our ultimate goal is fully automated origination, which has the potential to save lenders over $16B in operating expense per year.

Since starting in 2020, our remote team has enabled our customers to power >$85 billion in new home loans. We care about collaboration, very open communication covering the good & the bad so that we learn from our decisions quickly, and ultimately having fun while we're building. You'll fit in well if you like diving deep quickly!

The Opportunity

Our dreams are big and we have much to build! We're looking for a Senior Product Designer who can take some of the densest, highest-stakes workflows in financial services and make them feel intuitive, trustworthy, and even enjoyable to use. You'll be embedded within Product and Engineering, owning design end-to-end for a core product area.

This isn't a pixel-pushing role. You'll be in discovery calls with customers, shaping product direction alongside Product Management, and partnering closely with Engineering to make sure what ships matches what you designed. Great design is a first-class function here - our customers depend on this software to run their businesses, and the quality of the experience directly impacts their trust in the product.

You care deeply about craft - not just visual polish, but the interaction details and information architecture that make complex systems feel intuitive. You think in systems, sweat the micro-interactions, and bring a strong point of view to every surface you own. We're building an AI-native product and rely on AI heavily in our own workflows - if that excites you, you'll thrive here.

What You'll Do

🗂 Own design end-to-end for a core product area - from early discovery through high-fidelity Figma design - partnering closely with Product Management and Engineering throughout.

🔍 Lead customer discovery sessions - running usability tests, digging into workflows, and translating what you learn into design decisions that shape the product.

✦ Design intuitive UX patterns for complex interaction paradigms - multi-step automation workflows, AI-generated content, data-dense tables, and high-stakes decision surfaces.

🤖 Design for AI-native experiences - uncertainty states, intervention affordances, streaming content, and graceful error handling.

🧩 Build and maintain Figma component libraries and design system assets that give Engineering a coherent, scalable visual language.

♿ Advocate for accessibility - WCAG compliance, color and contrast, keyboard navigation, and inclusive design practices.

⚖️ Scope design work pragmatically - making smart tradeoffs between craft and delivery velocity without compromising correctness.

Preferred Skills and Background

(It's okay not to have all of these things - these are just some skills we are excited about!)

💼 Portfolio showing high-craft visual and interaction design - dense layouts, multi-step workflows, and a clear, consistent point of view.

🎨 Deep Figma proficiency - variables, auto-layout, variants, prototyping, and component library hygiene.

🤖 Comfort designing AI-native UX - you understand the unique challenges of surfaces where outputs are probabilistic, not deterministic.

📊 Facility with data-dense UIs - tables, filtering and sorting, bulk actions, and information-heavy layouts that still feel approachable.

🔬 Strong user research instincts - you know how to run interviews, synthesize qualitative signal, and connect what you learn to design decisions.

♿ Accessibility proficiency - WCAG, ARIA, color/contrast, and motion sensitivity.

🧩 Experience contributing to or building design systems - you understand component architecture and know how to design for reuse.

🚀 Product mindset - you have strong opinions, communicate your rationale clearly, and know when to push back and when to ship.

✨ Visual design chops and brand sensibility - a plus when work occasionally extends beyond product UI.

Perks & Benefits
  • Robust medical coverage (100% of employee + family premiums covered)

  • Vision & dental coverage

  • 401(k)

  • HSA / FSA

  • Remote-first culture - work from wherever you do your best work

  • Flexible time off - we trust you to manage your time
