We’re supercharging the clean economy

Crux is the capital markets platform changing the way clean energy and manufacturing projects are financed in the US. Our platform, market intelligence, and expert team help developers and manufacturers unlock financing through all stages of project development and operation.

Our team of 75+ is composed of experts in energy, tax, finance, government, and technology. We have raised $77 million in capital from some of the best investors, including Andreessen Horowitz, Lowercarbon Capital, New System Ventures, Overture, Ardent Venture Partners, QED, Canapi, and others. These funds are joined by strategic investors including Pattern Energy, Clearway Energy, EDF Renewables, Intersect Power, LS Power, Orsted, Hartree Partners, Liberty Mutual Strategic Ventures, MassMutual Ventures, and OMERS Ventures.

An inflection point in American energy and manufacturing

Energy demand is growing for the first time in 20 years, driven by manufacturing, transportation, electrification, and data centers. Simultaneously, hundreds of billions of dollars are being invested in domestic supply chains for critical minerals and components. Developers and manufacturers will require trillions of dollars in capital to meet this growing demand.

Prior to Crux, the capital markets supporting this transformation were opaque, fragmented, and complex. At Crux, we recognized the missing infrastructure: a bespoke capital markets platform for the next century of American energy and industry. By connecting counterparties, providing market intelligence, and streamlining transactions, we unlock faster decision-making, lower cost of capital, and accelerated deployment.

The role

We are looking to add a designer to the team, to make the experience of negotiating, underwriting, and closing transactions on Crux efficient, intelligent, and seamless.

That will require a combination of collaboration and workflow software, delivered alongside LLM-driven automation and first and third-party data. All of that will have to be packaged and served to those doing this work, whether they are lawyers, investors, lenders, tax credit buyers, or Crux employees.

This designer will work in close collaboration with our experienced engineering, product, and customer-facing teams to develop that vision, and bring it to life.

Our Values

  • Care for each other: We want to work on a team where people support each other - in their growth, in their work, and towards our shared mission. When we do that, we have fun.

  • Build and improve rapidly: The thing we can best control is our pace of learning and pace of execution. We can’t control the market, regulators, or what competitors do. One of the best ways to move rapidly is to focus, and consistently ask ourselves if we are prioritizing the right things and executing them as best as possible.

  • Focus unremittingly on customers: Developers, manufacturers & their advisors are doing critical work to accelerate renewable energy development. Our obligation is to them first, and we must keep their needs front & center in everything we do.

  • Demonstrate ownership: We are all owners of Crux. This is our team, our company, our product and we show that to each other.

  • Convene a team that reflects the breadth of experiences in the country: We expect everyone to actively help us build a team where people of all backgrounds can thrive. This applies in hiring, people policies, how we interact - and connects closely with caring for each other.

What you’ll do

  • Own the core user experience for either (i) drafting contracts or (ii) underwriting transactions on the Crux platform

    • Work directly with product management, customers, partners, and customer-facing teams to eliminate friction throughout that process and continuously improve it

    • Iterate quickly with those same stakeholders to quickly improve the features in market

    • Partner with engineering & product to drive implementation of those features

  • Deeply understand our customers and market: the individual projects, surrounding market environment, and workflows to be able to build features purpose-built for their needs

  • Leverage our industry-leading data to guide your UX decision-making, and weave that data throughout the product in ways that make the experience better

  • Actively participate in company-building: help us improve Crux for our customers & as a team

Who you are

  • Executional Excellence: you are high ownership, and are known to solve customer problems by those who have worked with you. You likely have 5-8 years of experience in UX design. You may have worked in the following similar domains: B2B software, complex industries that interact with the built world or operationally-intensive businesses

  • LLM-native: you have built features that leverage LLMs, and have opinions on how and where to deploy them, to handle their limitations, and to communicate that to customers and users

  • Startup Minded: you are excited about working at an early-stage startup, which involves wearing multiple different hats, iterating a lot, and owning a significant product surface area

  • Mission Oriented: you want to use your skills to improve sustainable finance, in a collaborative team environment

What we offer

  • Estimated all-in cash compensation of $175-225k

  • Competitive equity package

  • Healthcare benefits, including dependent coverage

  • Remote-first company with opportunities to co-work in SF, NYC, DC, Seattle and Denver

  • Opportunity to travel for company-wide in-person onsites 3x per year

We encourage you to apply even if your background doesn’t precisely fit the job description - we know that our ability to define the job is limited by our own experiences, and are very open to having those assumptions challenged. Join us.

We provide equal employment opportunities to all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by law.
