Summary:

The Senior Product Designer leads design strategy and execution across Cadmium's product platform, owning the design system and driving product/UX design decisions in close partnership with Product and Engineering. This is a hands-on design role: the person in this seat continues to design personally at a senior level, while also supervising and developing Cadmium's product design team. The role is centralized and shared across all pods and traditional sprint teams, allocating design capacity where it is needed rather than being embedded in any single team. The Senior Product Designer proactively identifies user experience opportunities across the platform such as reviewing products, talking with customers and Operations staff, and prioritizing initiatives rather than working only from assigned requests.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Own the direction of Cadmium's design system: decide what to build next, how to implement it across both modern and legacy product codebases, and how to guide teams in adopting it.
  • Personally perform senior-level product and UX design work including research, wireframing, prototyping, and interface design across Cadmium's web and mobile products.
  • Proactively identify user experience gaps and improvement opportunities across the product platform; create, prioritize, and champion initiatives rather than working only from assigned requests.
  • Engage directly with customers and internal Operations staff to surface user experience issues and inform design priorities.
  • Participate as a standing member of the strategic product planning meeting, contributing design and UX perspective to product direction.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop Cadmium's product design team, including assigning work, balancing workload, and setting priorities and deadlines.
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones and performance reviews, support hiring and onboarding, and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Establish, document, and maintain design standards and reusable components for Cadmium's product interfaces.
  • Set direction for how the team uses AI in its design practice, establish best practices and workflows, and keep the team current as AI design tools evolve."
  • Guide and review production-level customer web design work (e.g., Elevate and EthosCE branded sites) performed by other members of the design team, without personally performing that production work.
  • Serve as the escalation point and quality reviewer for complex or high-visibility design work.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Client Services, and Marketing to embed design and UX thinking into product strategy and campaigns.
  • Identify and drive process improvements that increase design quality, consistency, and efficiency across the team.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position supervises Cadmium's product design team (currently two designers). Responsibilities include assigning and reviewing work, managing schedules and workload, conducting one-on-ones and performance reviews, and participating in the hiring, onboarding, and professional development of team members.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Several years of professional product/UX design experience for web and mobile applications, ideally in B2B or workflow-oriented software.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a design system at a prior organization i.e. direction-setting decisions and driving adoption across teams, not just using one.
  • Prior people-management experience, ideally including performance management.
  • Track record working cross-functionally with Product and Engineering on strategy, not just receiving design requests.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

No specific certifications are required; relevant design, UX, or product-management certifications are a plus.

Additional Skills:

  • Strong product/UX design skills: User research, wireframing, prototyping, usability principles.
  • Proficiency with modern design tooling (e.g., Figma), including collaborative and design-system features.
  • Experience with AI-assisted design tools and workflows. For example, AI features within Figma or AI-centric product/software development workflows, and comfort adapting design practice as those tools evolve.
  • Ability to train and mentor designers, raising the skill level of a small team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication. This role should be able to explain design rationale to Product, Engineering, and non-technical stakeholders, and to talk directly with customers.
  • Proactive and self-directed. This role should be able to identify UX problems and initiatives without being assigned them, and to prioritize own work.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Able to work under stressful conditions and respond quickly to a variety of situations.
  • Able to function well in a team environment and work collaboratively with others.
