About the Role:

As a Senior Product Designer on Consumer Money, you’ll play a pivotal role in scaling our financial services for workers, ensuring they are easy to discover, understand, and use. You'll craft high-quality, intuitive end-to-end experiences that drive conversion, engagement, and trust. Partnering closely with a dedicated pod of Product, Engineering, Data Science, and Marketing teammates, you'll influence strategy, build alignment, and ensure executional excellence. We thrive on customer research and data-driven decisions, balancing immediate impact with long-term vision. If you're a strategic, customer-obsessed designer who loves tackling complex problems and delivering exceptional experiences, we’d love to hear from you! This role reports to the Head of Design for New Revenue Streams.

About the Team:

The Consumer Money team elevates the value of work and the impact of income for our users. We craft financial tools designed to empower individuals paid through our platform, offering them greater control, increased confidence, and more money from every hard-earned paycheck. Growing from a startup team to a scaled organization, our team not only supports millions of users, but also drives millions of dollars in ARR. As critical contributors to Gusto’s rapidly evolving financial services offerings, we sustain and expand multiple product lines geared towards enhancing our customers' financial lives by making a tangible difference in how people manage and perceive their finances.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Develop a deep understanding of the different customers we serve, and how their varying needs translate into product requirements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally by partnering with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Marketing, and other functions to understand customer problems and identify opportunities.
  • Design holistic customer journeys by crafting end-to-end experiences, frameworks, and principles that guide teams in delivering exceptional products.
  • Validate solutions with research by ensuring designs are informed by rigorous analysis, data, and customer support insights.
  • Balance an iterative approach and urgency to solve customer pain with ensuring that short term improvements ladder up to long-term vision.
  • Hold high standards for the customer experience, including partnering with engineering partners to deliver experiences that are bug free, performant, accessible, and responsive.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • 6+ years of product design experience, ideally in consumer fintech or a similar domain.
  • Proven track record of crafting end-to-end experiences, from concept to execution.
  • Customer-focused mindset that translates deep user insights into impactful design solutions.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, and driving clarity in ambiguous spaces.
  • Hands-on builder who is a craftsperson at heart, and always sweats the details.
  • Growth mindset, optimizing user acquisition, activation, and retention with conversion-focused design.
  • Data-driven, using analytics and A/B testing to iterate and refine user experiences for growth.
  • Rapid prototyping and agile iteration: able to test ideas quickly and refine solutions based on feedback.
  • Embrace strategic and business-focused thinking, ensuring design choices align with customer needs and business goals.
  • Strong communication skills to explain design decisions, articulate tradeoffs, and drive cross-functional alignment.
  • Strong opinions loosely held, and a willingness to constructively debate scope and tradeoffs to build alignment and unblock work.
