The Mission Chief Engineer (MCE) is the senior technical leader responsible for setting the technical vision, guiding cross-functional teams, and ensuring the delivery of compliant and organizationally efficient solutions that meet the end-customer's needs. What You'll Do:
- Provide systems engineering leadership of technical teams to define architectures for complex systems including spacecraft, instruments, ground, and missions.
- Objectively define, execute, and report on trade studies that provide data for decision making to our customers.
- Leverage Model Based Systems Engineering.
- Creatively apply our heritage and expertise to solve customer problems in novel and cost-effective ways.
- Lead technical proposal development.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.

- Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of related experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active Top Secret security clearance is required with ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI.
- Recognize the need for Enterprise communication - driving conversation and narratives outside scope and into users, operators, other stakeholders to benefit the mission's success
- Navigate the documented SOW vs the mission needs, bringing things into conversations with externals where scope doesn't match expectations, or where other efficiencies and benefits may be realized.
- Problem-solve across multiple simultaneous domains, people, team, tech, environment, and tools.
- Ability to mature strategy and then apply it across the execution lifecycle.
- Solid, strategic awareness of cost and schedule from quick-turn studies to LCM Phase reviews.
- Span Of Control and Force Multiplication to empower others for the team's success. The Mission CE must make room for others to lead.
- Experience working the full program Lifecycle beyond PSR, launch, and SV checkout.
- Able to lead systems engineer on an effort where the SE Lifecycle is executed.
- Experience leading a Systems Integration and Test team through several phases of a program lifecycle including staffing, costing, and planning.
- Experience in Systems Engineering disciplines including: Requirement creation, allocation, and verification validation.
- Exposure to hardware and/or software test processes, challenges, problem resolution, allocation to test then test through requirement sell-off efforts, and test infrastructures required across space, ground, and the larger enterprise into which the system integrates.
- Architecture design experience: Take concepts through trade studies and into an implementable solution including identifying connections between design, performance, and lifecycle cost.
- Exposure to MBSE and Agile Systems Engineering.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Extensive knowledge of missions and customers across core technologies areas. Knowledge/experience working with critical customer base, established relationships with key personnel within customer community.
- Superb presentation skills with documented presentation experience to senior decision making and technical audiences.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and analyzing mission concepts, including space, launch, and ground components.
