About SafeLease
At SafeLease, we're rethinking how P&C insurance is sold in an age of technological change. We believe the industry's biggest inefficiencies aren't technical problems — they're structural ones. And we're building the team to tackle them.
SafeLease is a profitable insurance business that designs, underwrites, and distributes specialty coverage for commercial property owners and their tenants. Most insurance companies either distribute products or bear the risk — we do both. We back our policies with our own capital, which means we control the full stack: product design, tech, and the speed at which we move. That end-to-end ownership lets us offer customers real flexibility, saving time and money for more than 4,000 properties insured for billions in value nationwide.
We're a team of 70, growing over 100% annually, and we've done it without sacrificing profitability or culture. Here, you'll get high discretion and a wide aperture of problems to solve. We embrace the newest technologies, move fast together, and operate with the intensity of a small company where every person's work is visible. If you're looking for a place to sharpen your craft alongside people who take their work seriously, you'll fit right in.
About the Role
We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Senior Pricing Specialist to help optimize and manage our insurance products. You will work on pricing, coverage, and underwriting guidelines across our commercial and personal lines offerings, partnering with underwriting, sales, and technology to drive product innovation and profitability.
This is a senior individual contributor role on a collaborative pricing team. There are no direct reports, though you will mentor and support less experienced analysts.
Product Development & Strategy
Refine insurance products based on market research, customer insights, and competitive analysis.
Define product roadmaps and work with cross-functional teams to bring new products and coverage features to market.
Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and competitiveness.
Pricing & Profitability
Refine pricing models that balance risk and profitability.
Analyze claims data, model cat losses, and underwriting performance to refine pricing strategies, rating factors, and underwriting rules.
Maintain and update underwriting guidelines and practices.
Market Research & Competitive Analysis
Conduct research to identify customer needs, market trends, and competitive positioning.
Recommend product enhancements and new opportunities based on data-driven insights.
Work closely with sales to fully understand customer needs and ensure product has sufficient features and pricing to be competitive in the market.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with underwriting, sales, legal, marketing, and technology teams to ensure successful product launches.
Provide training and support to sales teams to effectively position and sell products.
Regulatory & Compliance Management
Ensure all products comply with non-admitted insurance regulations and company policies. Conduct independent research of state statutes where required.
Work with legal resources and carrier personnel to obtain necessary approvals for coverage and forms changes.
Performance Monitoring & Optimization
Track and monitor key performance metrics, including conversion rate, quote cycle time, claims experience, profitability, PML and aggregation.
Adjust product features and pricing as needed to optimize performance.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Credentials
Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Business, or a related quantitative field; equivalent work experience may substitute. ACAS is a strong plus and exam progress is welcome, but neither is required — we weight demonstrated pricing judgment more heavily than exams passed.
Experience
5+ years of insurance pricing and/or actuarial analytics experience in property & casualty or specialty lines.
Hands-on ownership of a rate indication end to end: on-leveling earned premium, developing losses to ultimate, selecting frequency and severity trends, credibility-weighting indications, and translating the result into a rating plan, including relativity and tier structure work.
Breadth across multiple lines is valued more than depth in one — homeowners, private passenger auto, credit-related or lender-placed products, surety, commercial property. Experience across both commercial and personal lines is ideal.
Experience standing up pricing for a new program, not only maintaining an existing one: building the exhibit set and sourcing benchmark loss costs when internal data is thin. Actuarial consulting experience is a strong plus.
Comfort working with thin or immature data: forming a defensible rate opinion with less credibility than you would like, stating your assumptions plainly, and revisiting them as experience emerges.
Able to explain the same rate change three ways — to an underwriter, to a sales rep, and to a carrier partner — and hold the position under pushback.
Technical
Advanced Excel required — including a track record of building reusable tools and exhibit templates with the quality-control checks and documentation that let someone else run them.
Comfort using AI-enabled tools (Claude and similar) to accelerate analysis, research state statutes, and document work is a significant plus.
