The Senior Plasma Business Architect owns the target-state business architecture for CSL Plasma and produces the architectural decisions that connect business strategy to the technology ecosystem. This role is responsible for developing, documenting, and governing the business architecture across the full Plasma product portfolio, ensuring that technology investments are aligned to business capabilities and value streams. The role also evaluates and incorporates Artificial Intelligence (AI), Generative AI, intelligent automation, and emerging digital capabilities into business architecture roadmaps, ensuring these technologies are aligned to business value, regulatory requirements, and enterprise governance standards.
Working closely with the Director, I&T Plasma Engineering, product owners, and enterprise architects, the Plasma Business Architect translates business processes and organizational goals into actionable architecture blueprints, integration standards, and capability roadmaps. This role produces committed architectural decisions rather than open-ended recommendations, and proactively identifies structural inefficiencies and architectural gaps that hinder digital transformation.
This is an architectural leadership role. The Business Architect stays close enough to the design work to be credible with the engineers, product owners, and enterprise architects they work with, contributes personally to the hardest cross-product designs, and delegates confidently to domain technical leads for routine architectural decisions.

Principal Accountabilities
1. Business Architecture Development
·Define and maintain the Plasma business capability model as a living artifact, as well as value streams, and business process hierarchies aligned to the CSL enterprise architecture framework.
·Develop business architecture artifacts including capability maps, business motivation models, and organizational structure diagrams using TOGAF or ArchiMate frameworks.
·Hold architectural consistency across all Plasma digital products including the Donor App, Plasma Portal, payments platforms, scheduling tools, and web experience.
·Identify and model AI-enables business capabilities across the Plasma product portfolio, including opportunities for Generative AI, intelligent automation, predictive analytics, and decision-support solutions. Produce the reference architectural pattern for how AI capabilities fit into business processes, including where the model decides, where a human decides, escalation paths, control points, and audit trails. Apply this pattern consistently as new AI use cases are added to the ecosystem.
2. Architecture Governance & Standards
·Establish and enforce integration and data architecture standards across all Plasma domains in partnership with the Director of I&T Plasma Engineering.
·Serve as the formal interface with the CSL enterprise architecture organization to ensure Plasma architecture aligns with enterprise-level standards and patterns.
·Author and sign architecture decision records for significant architectural decisions. Approve decisions personally where standards allow judgment; escalate genuinely novel or standards-breaking decisions for formal review.
·Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Data, Security, Privacy, and Compliance teams to ensure AI solutions adhere to Responsible AI principles, data governance standards, validation requirements, and regulatory expectations.
· Jointly with the Integration Dev Lead, hold integration architecture governance for the Plasma portfolio, including the integration mesh, event patterns, and API design standards.
3. Stakeholder Engagement & Requirements Translation
·Partner with Product Owners, business leaders, and senior stakeholders to capture, model, and validate business requirements at an architectural level.
·Translate complex business strategies and regulatory requirements into structured architecture views that guide technology solution design.
·Lead architecture working sessions and workshops with cross-functional teams across business and technology domains and produce committed target-state designs from them.
·Participate in domain team planning cadences where architectural decisions are being shaped, including backlog refinement and, where adopted, PI planning. Not embedded full-time in any one team; present across the domains where architectural input is needed at design time rather than after the fact.
4. Roadmap & Portfolio Alignment
·Assess the current-state architecture and define target-state blueprints that support the Plasma digital product roadmap.
·Identify architectural dependencies, risks, and sequencing constraints that impact program delivery timelines.
·Author architecture decision records that commit the organization to build, buy, or integrate choices, informed by architecture analysis and portfolio impact.
·Produce architectural evaluations of emerging AI capabilities that shape the organization’s committed direction, supported by clear reasoning about applicability to CSL Plasma's product portfolio and digital transformation objectives.
·Produce and hold the target-state architecture and migration sequence for the Plasma capability portfolio, including the phased extraction of capabilities from legacy platforms into purpose-built products, the interim integration patterns required during transition, and the reassessment of sequence and scope as products, regulatory context, and business priorities evolve.
5. Documentation & Knowledge Management
·Maintain a living architecture repository (ie, LeanIX) that carries current-state and target-state views, architecture decision records, and reference patterns in a form that engineering, product, and business teams can consume.
·Develop and socialize architecture patterns and reference models to promote reuse and reduce technical debt.
Required Skills & Experience
·Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
·7+ years of experience in business architecture, enterprise architecture, or a senior business analysis role, including demonstrated experience in a Principal or Lead Architect capacity.
·Track record of personally producing committed target-state designs and architecture decision records, not just facilitating others' designs.
·Recent – within the last 3 years -- hands-on architecture experience. This is a hands-on-enough-to-be-credible architecture role, not a facilitation or governance-only role.
·Proficiency in business architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, ArchiMate, or BIZBOK; TOGAF certification preferred.
·Experience mapping business capabilities, value streams, and processes across complex, multi-domain organizations.
·Strong ability to translate business strategy and regulatory requirements into technology architecture models.
·Experience working in an Agile/SAFe delivery environment alongside product and engineering teams.
·Demonstrated experience defining and governing integration architecture: API design, event-driven architecture, data flows, and middleware patterns.
·Experience evaluating, architecting, or supporting Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), or Generative AI initiatives within complex enterprise environments.
·Understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), AI-enabled business capabilities, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), AI evaluation, guardrails, and lifecycle management, human-and-agent workflow patterns (where the model decides, where a human decides, escalation and audit), and AI solution architecture principles.
·Life sciences, healthcare, pharmaceutical or regulated industry business architecture experience.
·Excellent stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills with the ability to influence senior leadership.
·Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear architecture diagrams and documentation.
Preferred Skills & Experience
·Familiarity with MuleSoft Anypoint, Informatica, or AWS integration services.
·Experience with Microsoft Copilot, AWS AI services, Microsoft Azure AI, Azure OpenAI, or comparable enterprise AI platforms.
·Experience defining business capabilities, governance models, and operating frameworks that support AI adoption at scale.
·Experience with enterprise architecture tools such as Sparx EA, LeanIX, or Ardoq.
·Exposure to data architecture and data governance concepts.
Competencies
·Systems Thinking — connects business strategy, processes, and technology into coherent architectural blueprints.
·Influences Without Authority — builds consensus and drives architectural alignment across product, engineering, and business domains.
·Drives Governance — establishes and upholds standards that reduce technical debt and ensure long-term scalability.
·AI & Digital Innovation Mindset — evaluates emerging technologies and identifies practical opportunities to leverage AI and intelligent automation to create business value.
·Communicates Complexity Clearly — translates abstract architectural concepts into language accessible to both technical and business audiences.
·Produces Decisions -- Turns discussion into committed architecture decision records with a signed record. Comfortable being accountable for those decisions over time.
·Architecturally Credible -- Stays close enough to the design work to earn the respect of the engineers, product owners, and enterprise architects they work with. Contributes personally to the hardest cross-product designs and delegates confidently to domain technical leads for routine architectural decisions.
