The Business Development & Commercial Programs team drives growth and strengthens the marketplace by cultivating strategic partnerships and guiding long-term planning. We collaborate with partners across key verticals to expand Thumbtack’s reach and unlock new customer value, while working closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, and Finance to ensure alignment with company priorities. As the first Partner Solutions Architect on the Business Development team, you’ll establish how we bring technical expertise into partner conversations — enabling our BD leaders to close deals faster, remove integration blockers, and deepen partner relationships without diverting core Product and Engineering resources.
About the roleThe Partner Solutions Architect (Founding Role) will be a strategic, technical enabler for our Business Development team, responsible for unblocking and accelerating high-impact partnerships with large, complex organizations. You will support BD leaders in sourcing and closing deals by providing the technical depth needed to shape integration strategies, evaluate partner requirements, and design scalable solutions that enhance customer and pro experiences. Once partnerships are signed, you will help ensure integrations are set up for success, guiding partners through discovery, solution design, and early implementation while collaborating with Product and Engineering on roadmap alignment. In this foundational role, you will also build the playbooks, tools, and processes that define how Partner Solutions scales at Thumbtack, creating a repeatable model for enabling partners and driving long-term growth.
What you'll do- Act as the embedded technical expert within the Business Development team, providing solution design and integration expertise to accelerate and close strategic partnerships.
- Support partner evaluation and deal structuring by assessing technical feasibility, integration requirements, and alignment with Thumbtack’s platform capabilities.
- Lead technical discovery with partner teams to surface integration opportunities, identify blockers early, and propose scalable solutions that create mutual value.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering to ensure partner needs are understood, prioritized, and implemented in a way that advances Thumbtack’s strategic roadmap.
- Develop and maintain solution playbooks, technical best practices, and integration frameworks to streamline future partner engagements.
- Partner with BD and Partner Success teams to ensure integrations are healthy post-launch, driving adoption, customer impact, and long-term growth.
- Build trusted relationships with senior technical and business leaders at partner organizations, positioning Thumbtack as a strategic and reliable partner.
- 7+ years in solutions architecture, technical partnerships, sales engineering, or solution consulting, ideally within platform, marketplace, or SaaS environments.
- Strong expertise in APIs, data integrations, and system design, with the ability to quickly understand partner platforms and map technical requirements to business value.
- Proven ability to support deal cycles by serving as a trusted technical advisor in enterprise partnership discussions.
- Demonstrated success in guiding external partners through integration design, technical onboarding, and long-term solution optimization.
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with comfort engaging both technical stakeholders and senior business executives.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with experience building new functions, processes, or playbooks from the ground up.
- For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, San Jose, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $178,500 - $231,000.
- For candidates living in Austin, TX or Washington DC metros or in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Washington states, the expected salary range for the role is currently $160,650 - $207,900.
- For candidates living in all other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is currently $151,725 - $196,350.
Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
