Senior Newsletter Editor

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a Senior Newsletter Editor to shape the Journal’s voice in the inbox as part of the Direct Audience team. In this position, you will ensure that no matter which newsletter a reader opens, it feels like a premium, cohesive experience.

You will coach and train reporters to write in a newsletter-first style, helping them hone their individual voices and connect directly with their audiences. The ideal candidate is a sharp editor and a natural teacher who champions a conversational, inbox-native approach that builds loyalty and trust with our readers.

This role is based in New York and reports to the Director of Direct Audience.

You will:

  • Establish and champion a distinct, engaging WSJ voice across our entire portfolio of newsletters.

  • Edit flagship and personality-led newsletters daily, enlivening the copy to ensure our products are as compelling and digestible as possible.

  • Work hands-on with writers across coverage desks to translate their deep expertise into a conversational, inbox-native format.

  • Ensure a premium, cohesive reader experience across the portfolio, transitioning our newsletters into conversational, relationship-building formats.

  • Monitor audience feedback, open rates, and engagement data to continuously iterate on subject lines, formats, and copy.

You have:

  • 7+ years of experience editing and writing, with a deep expertise in newsletter strategy and production.

  • A proven knack for voice and tone—you know how to make copy sing and keep readers hooked.

  • Demonstrated experience coaching writers, with a talent for helping traditional reporters adapt their work into conversational, digital-native formats.

  • A deep understanding of the shifting media landscape and the importance of transitioning to a personality-led, relationship-first model.

  • A highly collaborative mindset, comfortable working across coverage desks to elevate the newsroom's work in the inbox.

  • A self-starter mentality and a relentless passion for advocating for the reader.
