Job Title: Senior Mobile Software Engineer (iOS / Android)
Reporting into: VP of Engineering
Location: Remote (North America, South America)

As a Senior Mobile Developer, you will help us build the user-facing pieces of the next generation of Scruff, Jack’d and Growlr. We are looking for engineers who are passionate about architecture and excited to become polyglot in their understanding of Swift, Kotlin, and backend framework languages. We are a small, nimble company, so the ability to make an impact is significant. The position is 40 hours per week and ongoing/full-time.

What you'll do:

  • Clean architecture using dependency injection (Koin/Swinject), modules, and functional & reactive programming (RxJava/Combine)
  • Modern UIs with a live style guide and Jetpack Compose/SwiftUI
  • Test and behavior-driven development, starting with the ViewModel layer (see our blogs), using Quick/Nimble, KoTest, Konsist, and CombineExpectations.
  • We are pioneers of architectural linters (we are the #1 consumer of Konsist and introduced Harmonize for iOS). This enables us to apply architectural principles across a global, distributed team
  • Work in an agile team with Product, Design, Support, and Marketing to respond to our users' needs
  • Help develop solutions end to end, from the design, to requirements, coding, refactoring, delivering, and maintenance
  • Be a good communicator using pair and mob programming across a global team
  • Ability to learn and develop other technologies - Kotlin, React, and/or Ruby on Rails
  • Ability to use latest AI coding technologies -- Claude Code, GH Copilot, etc -- to accelerate your learning and development speed
  • Develop production-ready code serving millions of users right away
You can see more about our architectural approach on our Engineering blog here.

Requirements
Timezone requirements:
  • Because we are a global, remote, distributed company, timezone alignment is critical
  • If you are EU-based, you must be available to work between 11am CET and 8pm CET (Winter) or 12pm CET and 9pm CET (Summer)
  • If you are Brasil-based, you must be available to work between 8am EST and 5pm EST
  • If you are North America-based, you must be available to work between 8am EST and 5pm EST
Candidates must:
  • Be available to collaborate between 9a EST and 1p EST, regardless of your present timezone.
  • Have experience working for remote, global teams
  • Be excited about and open to pair programming
  • Be open to learning languages outside their current client specialty, such as Ruby, Python or SQL
Who you are:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in computer science, related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • 4+ year of iOS or Android app development experience
  • Experience using design and architecture patterns
  • Deep understanding of Github and git-driven development processes
  • Open to learning about and enhancing your productivity with AI-powered coding tools
  • Good sense of usability and product for mobile apps
  • Strong sense of ownership, ability to work independently, and proven track record of driving products
  • Previously shipped consumer iOS or Android apps, ideally available in the stores
  • Experience with testable and maintainable mobile architectures

Bonus if you have experience with:

  • SwiftUI and Combine or Jetpack Compose and RxJava
  • Swift Package Manager or Gradle
  • MVVM Architecture
  • Full stack technologies like Ruby, SQL, Linux, Typescript, Databricks, and AWS
  • CI/CD systems such as Bitrise or Github actions
  • Advanced animations with Lottie
  • Data-driven decision-making
And one more thing...

We spend a lot of time describing our technology and our approach on our Engineering Blog. If you want to impress us, take the time to read our blog posts, and let us know how what we've done compares with your experience in the cover letter of your application.
