Accelint is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to support the development, integration, and sustainment of advanced electromechanical defense systems, autonomous platforms, and sensor payloads. This position is intentionally structured around a highly experienced hands-on design professional with deep expertise in top-level assembly ownership, CAD standards, electromechanical integration, production drawing release, and design-process automation.
The successful candidate will serve as the organization’s mechanical design authority for complex assemblies, owning the mechanical product definition from concept layout through released drawing packages and production support.
This role will work closely with mechanical, electrical, software, systems, and manufacturing teams to ensure rapid and disciplined execution of development efforts across USV platforms, payload systems, radar subsystems, and supporting hardware.
In addition to design execution, this individual will drive CAD best practices, PDM/PLM workflow governance, template control, and engineering automation initiatives to improve engineering cycle time and quality.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Own top-level mechanical and electromechanical assemblies across multiple defense programs
- Develop detailed 3D CAD models, production drawings, and interface-controlled assemblies
- Create and maintain engineering drawing packages, BOMs, revision-controlled releases, and ECNs/ECRs
- Lead mechanical subsystem integration to ensure all interfaces across structural, electrical, and payload systems align correctly
- Apply GD&T and manufacturing-ready tolerancing to released drawings
- Establish and maintain CAD standards, templates, part libraries, and drawing conventions
- Administer and improve PDM / PLM vault workflows, revision control, and release processes
- Develop SolidWorks macros and automation tools to reduce repetitive design tasks and improve engineering efficiency
- Support prototype fabrication, design validation, integration, and production transition
- Collaborate closely with systems, electrical, firmware, and manufacturing teams
- Mentor junior engineers and designers on modeling best practices and design discipline
- Support proposal and capture efforts with concept layouts, design studies, and ROM technical estimates
- Support DFM / DFP initiatives to enable scalable production and repeatable builds
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Ability to maintain or obtain a U.S. Security Clearance
- 15+ years of progressive mechanical design experience in defense, aerospace, industrial, or electromechanical product development
- Expert proficiency in SolidWorks
- Demonstrated experience owning top-level assemblies and subsystem interfaces
- Strong background in electromechanical chassis and system integration
- Advanced experience with PDM / PLM administration
- Strong proficiency in BOM creation, change notices, drawing release, and revision control
- Experience developing CAD templates, design standards, and department workflows
- Expertise in GD&T and production drawing best practices
- Experience building engineering automation macros / API tools
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
- Familiarity with Creo / Pro-E preferred
- Experience with additive manufacturing and 3D printing preferred
- Strong communication and mentoring skills
Clearance Requirements
Some positions will require access to U.S. National Security information. Positions that require this access will be required to receive and maintain a U.S. government personnel security clearance (PCL). In order to qualify for this position, the candidate must be a US Citizen and either currently possess this National Security eligibility or be able to complete the investigation application process with a favorable determination and maintain that eligibility throughout their employment.
