Role Summary
The Senior Manager, Finance Data Governance & Metadata Strategy leads the business data governance function for the Finance & Strategy organization. This role ensures that finance data is trusted, discoverable, and ready for AI-driven decision-making.
In partnership with Enterprise Data Governance, the DNA (Data & Analytics) team, Finance Systems, and other business stakeholders, this leader will operationalize governance processes, define and manage critical data elements, oversee metric and KPI governance, monitor and improve data quality, and maintain accurate business metadata.
They will also drive the enablement and adoption of governance tools and policies across Finance - ensuring every team knows where to find trusted data, how to interpret it, and how to apply it confidently.
The role balances hands-on governance execution (60%) with strategic development and modernization (40%), serving as a cornerstone of the Finance Data Foundation and enterprise AI transformation.

- Lead the Finance Data Council - driving monthly governance meetings focused on identifying, tracking, and resolving/remediating data issues across finance domains.
- Oversee master data and hierarchy governance for finance-owned domains (e.g., cost centers, legal entities, and organizational structures) in alignment with enterprise teams.
- Define, prioritize, and maintain critical data elements (CDEs) - establishing ownership, business definitions, and quality thresholds.
- Establish and maintain metric and KPI governance across finance data products:
- Ensure consistent metric definitions, naming conventions, and lineage.
- Partner with analytics and DNA teams to align calculations and data sources across dashboards and models.
- Maintain visibility of metric ownership and documentation in metadata repositories.
- Partner with Enterprise Data teams to prepare and submit business glossary updates, ensuring synchronized business and technical metadata.
- Develop, communicate, and monitor data quality rules; manage issue remediation workflows and escalate unresolved items through governance forums.
- Create and maintain the Finance Data Governance Scorecard, measuring data quality, metadata completeness, stewardship maturity, and metric alignment across finance segments.
- Co-lead the Finance Data Foundation Program with the DNA team to strengthen finance data structures, lineage, and overall integrity.
- Lead data governance enablement and training across Finance & Strategy:
- Drive adoption of governance policies and enterprise data management tools
- Build quick-reference guides and deliver workshops to raise data literacy and tool adoption.
- Ensure finance teams know where to go for trusted data and metrics, how to interpret metadata, and how to engage governance workflows.
- Prepare executive-ready communications for SVP and CFO audiences, highlighting governance progress, data risks, and improvement trends.
- Champion a data-first culture - embedding governance and metric consistency into how Finance operates and measures success.
- Serve as a thought leader in modernizing governance with automation, analytics, and AI-driven capabilities.
Innovation & AI-Enabled Governance
- Leverage generative AI and automation to improve efficiency and intelligence in governance operations, including:
- Metadata enrichment and accuracy validation.
- Detection of data quality anomalies or inconsistencies.
- Automated generation of governance insights, summaries, and recommendations.
- Design and pilot digital agents that streamline metadata maintenance, data quality monitoring, and governance workflows.
- Integrate AI governance practices into finance workflows to ensure data used in predictive and generative models is governed, explainable, and compliant.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you have:
- Experience in leveraging or critically thinking about how to integrate AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving. This may include using AI-powered tools, automating workflows, analyzing AI-driven insights, or exploring AI's potential impact on the function or industry.
- 8+ years in data governance, metadata management, or data quality roles (3+ years leading or influencing cross-functional governance).
- Deep understanding of metadata, data lineage, master data, and metric governance frameworks.
- Proven ability to operationalize governance and drive adoption across a business function.
- Familiarity with enterprise governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation).
- Strong communication and storytelling skills; capable of producing executive-ready narratives and scorecards.
- Knowledge of AI governance and data readiness requirements.

- Experience in a finance data environment (FP&A, Accounting, Treasury, or Financial Systems).
- DAMA or equivalent certification.
- Proven success leading data governance enablement and/or data literacy programs.
