JOB SUMMARY:

The Sr. Manager, Enterprise Data Engineering & Platforms provides leadership and oversight for Vertex’s Enterprise Data Engineering team and Data Platform ecosystem. This role leads a blended team of full-time employees and contractors to deliver scalable, governed, and innovative data solutions. Responsible for the strategy and operations of core platforms including Snowflake, Azure Data Factory, Profisee, MS Fabric, and Data Cloud, the Sr. Manager ensures delivery excellence, platform stability, and alignment to enterprise priorities.

This leader partners closely with IT, Finance, and MSO, represents the Enterprise Data team in executive forums, and is accountable for budget oversight, vendor management, and talent development. The ideal candidate brings a mix of strategic vision, people/process leadership, and enterprise-scale data engineering expertise.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Platform & Delivery Leadership

o Oversee enterprise data platforms (Snowflake, Azure Data Factory, Profisee MDM, MS Fabric, Data Cloud), ensuring scalability, governance, and resilience.

o Lead a blended team of ETL developers, testers, and contractors to deliver high-quality data pipelines, integrations, and governed data assets.

o Establish and enforce delivery processes (intake, prioritization, SLAs, testing/QA) to ensure reliability and stakeholder satisfaction.

People & Vendor Management

o Manage a mix of full-time employees and third-party contractors, ensuring high performance and accountability.

o Provide coaching, mentorship, and career development, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

o Oversee vendor and GCC partnerships, ensuring contractor performance and value realization.

Strategic Alignment & Influence

o Align data engineering and platform initiatives with enterprise-wide priorities and data strategy.

o Represent the Enterprise Data Engineering & Platforms team in executive level forums, influencing decisions and advocating for enterprise data needs.

o Drive modernization and innovation in data platforms, anticipating emerging trends and raising the bar on enterprise capabilities.

Financial & Operational Oversight

o Own cost center and budget responsibilities, including forecasting, optimization, and reporting.

o Ensure platform investments align with enterprise priorities and deliver measurable ROI.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Directly lead a blended team of full-time employees and contractors in data engineering and platform operations.

· Define team goals, performance metrics, and development plans.

· Provide coaching, mentorship, and succession planning for technical and leadership talent.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Strong leadership in data engineering and platform management, with emphasis on people and process management.

· Proven expertise with Snowflake, Azure Data Factory, MS Fabric, Profisee MDM, and data governance practices.

· Experience in vendor management and oversight of third-party/GCC contractor teams.

· Strong financial acumen with cost center and budget ownership.

· Ability to represent technical teams effectively in executive forums.

· Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills (especially with IT, Finance, MSO).

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).

· 8–12 years of progressive experience in data engineering and platform management.

· At least 3–5 years of experience in a Sr. Manager-level leadership role.

· Demonstrated success managing blended teams of FTEs and contractors.

Pay Transparency Statement:

US Base Salary Range: $131,600.00 - $171,100.00

Base pay offered to new hires may vary based upon factors including relevant industry and job-related skills and experience, geographic location, and business needs.* The range displayed does not encompass the full potential of the role, which allows for further growth and career progression.

In addition, as a part of our total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Vertex Bonus Plan (VOB), a role-specific sales commission/bonus, and/or equity grants.
