GitLab is seeking a Senior Learning Experience Designer (LXD) to join our Professional Services team. In this role, you'll leverage your strong instructional design and technical expertise to create engaging, outcome-driven learning experiences for our global customer base. You'll apply adult learning theory, modern instructional design best practices, and a strong understanding of technical concepts to develop scalable, modular content that drives customer success.
About the RoleAs part of the Professional Services team, you'll help create high-impact learning experiences that deliver value at scale—empowering our customers to become not just GitLab experts, but champions of our brand. The ideal candidate has experience creating Instructor-led, on-demand digital modules, videos, interactive hands-on labs, workshops, and certification materials. You should be passionate about learning and adept at simplifying complex technical topics.
What You'll Do- Design and develop high-quality educational content, including instructor-led and digital courses, presentations, hands-on labs, and assessments that meet defined learning outcomes
- Use your instructional design expertise to review courses, recommend improvements, and help enhance our learning offerings
- Apply instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles to create compelling, effective training solutions
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), curriculum developers, and cross-functional teams (e.g., Sales, Engineering, Support, and Professional Services) to ensure content aligns with product updates and business goals
- Partner with other team members to design, plan, develop, analyze, and maintain engaging learning experiences that support self-paced, virtual delivery formats
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of technical systems, tools, and environments that support scalable and consistent training programs
- Assist in the development of certification and accreditation exam content, including item writing and scoring rubrics criteria
- Continuously improve and iterate on content based on learner feedback, new product features, and evolving best practices
- Stay informed on GitLab's latest features and ensure content remains accurate and up to date
- 5+ years experience in enterprise customer-facing roles such as curriculum developer, instructional design, technical trainer, or consulting engineer (ideally in a subscription/SaaS environment)
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design models, and learning theories
- Proficient with eLearning tools such as Articulate Rise, Storyline, Captivate, Clueso, and Camtasia, as well as productivity tools including Adobe Acrobat, Google Suite, and Microsoft 365
- Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD, security features, and DevSecOps workflows, along with familiarity with the software development lifecycle, DevOps practices, and cloud-native technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, containers, microservices); GitLab certification(s) strongly preferred
- Skills in graphic design or multimedia development (e.g., videos, slide decks, job aids)
- Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and familiarity with eLearning standards such as xAPI and SCORM
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Experience designing and delivering curriculum to large enterprise audiences
- Familiarity with open-source communities and software
- Relevant certifications (e.g., GitLab Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Trainer)
The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of the United States only. This range is intended to reflect the role's base salary rate in locations throughout the US. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, alignment with market data, and geographic location. The base salary range does not include any bonuses, equity, or benefits. See more information on our benefits and equity. Sales roles are also eligible for incentive pay targeted at up to 100% of the offered base salary.
