About Strava

Strava is the app for active people. With over 180 million athletes in more than 185 countries, it’s more than tracking workouts—it’s where people make progress together, from new habits to new personal bests. No matter your sport or how you track it, Strava’s got you covered. Find your crew, crush your goals, and make every effort count. Start your journey with Strava today.

Our mission is simple: to motivate people to live their best active lives. We believe in the power of movement to connect and drive people forward.

The Foundation Team is the backbone of Strava's engineering organization, providing the infrastructure, tools, and frameworks that power every feature our athletes love. In this role, you'll embed reliability and scalability into the foundation of our platform, from optimizing our Kubernetes clusters and cloud infrastructure to building automated guardrails that make the right path the easy path for developers.

By architecting solutions that scale, you'll support the experiences of 150+ million athletes while enabling product teams to ship features with confidence. You'll be both a builder and an enabler, creating tools that empower engineers, responding to emerging operational challenges, and partnering with teams across Strava to weave infrastructure excellence into our engineering DNA.

We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our Denver office — three days per week.

What You'll Do:
  • Create and operate the infrastructure that makes Strava possible, from data stores and the container platform to observability software and deployment tooling.

  • Develop software that empowers your engineering colleagues, providing them the tools and platforms to deliver scalable, reliable, and observable products.

  • Find mentorship and growth opportunities with more experienced engineers on your team and beyond.

  • Demonstrating empathy for other engineers and thinking about how the platform enhances and enables their work.

  • Having an eye for detail and thoroughness, as you will work on the most important production systems at Strava.

  • Displaying ownership of your work by managing deployment and participating in an on-call rotation

What You'll Bring to the Team:
  • 5+ years of infrastructure engineering experience with a strong focus on cloud platform development.

  • Passion for building reliable, scalable, and observable platforms that empower engineering teams to move quickly and with confidence.

  • A track record of fully owning your work end to end, from architecture and implementation through ongoing maintenance and on-call support.

  • Proven ability to collaborate across engineering teams, driving adoption of platform standards and best practices without direct authority.

  • Familiarity with incident management tooling and a methodical, composed approach to diagnosing and resolving complex operational issues.

Some of our Technical Expectations:

We're not looking for 100% coverage; if you match any of these qualifications, we'd love to hear from you:

  • Experience with AWS or another cloud provider such as Azure or GCP.

  • Experience with at least one programming language such as Python, Go, Ruby, or Scala.

  • Experience working with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes at scale.

  • Experience with highly technical architecture and driving outcomes with automation through Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Helm, and GitOps

  • Experience in secrets management solutions (HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager)

  • Strong knowledge of network security including VPC design, service mesh (Istio), and zero-trust networking
