Owns enterprise VDI platforms across Citrix, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Omnissa Horizon. Responsibilities include image and catalog lifecycle management, profile and session troubleshooting, access-layer administration, incident leadership, capacity planning, automation, root cause analysis, change management, project delivery, client communication, and mentoring. The role requires deep expertise in at least one VDI platform, Windows administration, underlying compute and networking, scripting, APIs, and multi-client managed services experience.
This is a remote position.
ITTConnect is seeking an Senior Infrastructure Engineer expert in VDI / Citrix to work remotely for a client in the US.
Job location: Remote, work from home, anywhere in LATAM.
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer (VDI) is a hands-on engineering role in our Managed Services team. You will own the health, performance, and day-to-day operation of the virtual desktop and application delivery platforms our clients depend on: image and catalog lifecycle, profile and session management, access-layer troubleshooting, and acting as technical lead when a VDI outage is live. You will work alongside infrastructure, network, and service desk engineers, supported by a global network operations center that handles first-line monitoring and triage.
Our core platforms are Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and Citrix DaaS, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Omnissa Horizon. We do not expect you to have run all three at scale, but we do expect real depth in at least one and working familiarity with the others, along with a solid grasp of the VMware or Azure compute underneath them.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the golden image and machine catalog lifecycle: build, patch, test, and release images with minimal user disruption, and roll back cleanly when a release goes wrong.
- Troubleshoot session, profile, and application delivery problems end to end, including logon duration, profile containers, printing, peripherals, and protocol performance.
- Manage the access layer for each platform, including gateways, brokers, certificates, and MFA integration.
- Serve as technical lead during VDI-impacting incidents, coordinating with clients, internal teams, and vendors, and drive resolution without reliance on further escalation.
- Right-size host pools and delivery groups using session and resource data, and manage autoscale, power management, and cloud consumption.
- Automate recurring work such as image builds, catalog updates, and health checks using scripting and platform APIs.
- Write formal root cause analyses, execute changes through structured change management, and maintain documentation of baselines, images, and tuning decisions.
- Lead technical delivery of VDI projects including scoping, estimation, design, migration, and implementation.
- Give client stakeholders clear status reporting and practical best-practice guidance on their VDI environments.
- Mentor junior engineers and work with infrastructure, network, and service desk teams so VDI fits the wider environment rather than sitting beside it.
Requirements
- 12+ years in infrastructure engineering with at least 3 years focused on VDI or end-user computing platforms, in roles where you owned the platforms rather than only supported users on them.
- MUST BE fluent in English
- Hands-on ownership of at least one enterprise VDI platform at depth: Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops or DaaS, Azure Virtual Desktop, or Omnissa Horizon, including its access layer, image lifecycle, and profile management.
- Working familiarity with the other two platforms and the ability to come up to speed on them quickly.
- Strong Windows Server and Windows client administration, including Group Policy, Intune, and profile management.
- Working knowledge of the compute, storage, and networking layers beneath VDI, such as VMware vSphere or Azure, shared storage, load balancing, DNS, and certificates.
- Automation ability using AI tooling, scripting (PowerShell or an equivalent), and direct work against platform APIs.
- Experience writing formal root cause analyses and working inside a structured change management process.
- Clear client-facing communication and the ability to work independently across many client environments at once without losing track of any of them.
- Prior MSP or other multi-client experience, ideally supporting several customer environments at once.
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Citrix, Microsoft (AZ-140), or Omnissa VDI certifications, or a comparable virtualization certification.
- Experience with application layering or packaging and with GPU-backed or graphics-intensive workloads.
- Experience with VDI monitoring and analytics tooling such as Citrix Director, ControlUp, or Azure Monitor.
