About The Team

The Devices team at Life360 is responsible for building the connected hardware experiences that connect our families to people, pets, and things. We combine electrical, mechanical, firmware, and product design expertise to create delightful, reliable, and scalable products that bring peace of mind to millions of families.

This role sits within the Hardware Engineering team and reports to the Director of Hardware Engineering. You will work closely day-to-day with electrical, RF, and mechanical engineers, supported technically by our Principal Hardware Engineer, on some of the most constrained and challenging consumer electronics problems in the industry — packing multiple radios, sensors, and power systems into devices small enough to clip onto a keychain or a pet collar.

About the Job

We are looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer (EE) to join our team and contribute hands-on to the next generation of Life360's device portfolio. This is a high-output individual contributor role focused on circuit design, schematic development, PCB design, prototyping, and validation for ultra-compact, multi-radio consumer devices.

You will work across a complex design integrating BLE, WiFi, cellular, and GNSS radios — and potentially more — into very small form factors where every millimeter, microamp, and decibel matters. You will validate schematics, run down spec questions with vendors, build mockups and prototypes, execute DFMEA and PFMEA analyses, perform stress and tolerance analyses, and drive and execute a diversity of product tests. You will also design and build the tools that keep the broader team moving: dev boards, programming/test, and interface devices, and work closely with contract manufacturers to build prototypes and manufacturing infrastructure to enable mass production.

This role is best suited for an engineer who is passionate about the craft of electrical design, thrives on solving hard integration problems under real constraints, and brings a strong bias toward action paired with thorough, self-reviewed work and leveraging of experts.

The US-based salary range for this position is $109,500 to $199,500. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining final salary - therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of medical, dental, vision, financial, and other benefits, as well as equity.

What You’ll Do

Design and Build Complex, Multi-Radio PCBs

  • Contribute to high-density electrical design for next-generation GPS tracking devices with BLE, WiFi, cellular, and GNSS radios on a single board.
  • Validate schematics, review component selections, and chase down detailed specifications and vendor technical questions.
  • Perform DFMEA, PFMEA, stress analysis, and tolerance analysis to ensure design robustness.
  • Support board bring-up, debug, and iterative refinement from early prototypes through production-ready designs.

Prototype and Validate

  • Build mockups and proofs-of-concept to support R&D exploration, technical feasibility assessments, and industrial design convergence.
  • Drive parallel prototyping efforts to accelerate learning and de-risk design decisions.
  • Support EVT, DVT, and PVT phases with clear design intent and fast iteration.

Build Tools and Fixtures for the Team

  • Design and build programming jigs, test fixtures, dev boards, and interface helper boards used across the hardware and firmware teams.
  • Execute quick-turn board designs for tooling — practical, functional, and delivered fast.

Collaborate Across Disciplines

  • Work closely with firmware engineers on hardware-firmware interfaces, test points, and debug access.
  • Partner with mechanical engineering and industrial design on form factor constraints, integration tradeoffs, and physical prototyping.
  • Interface with operations and manufacturing partners on DFM, DFA, and production readiness.
  • Engage directly with component suppliers and contract manufacturers to resolve technical questions and drive sourcing decisions.

Communicate and Document

  • Proactively share findings, status, and technical insights with the team through clear written documentation.
  • Create thorough design documentation that others can build on and review.
  • Produce high-quality presentation materials when needed to communicate design decisions and tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
What We’re Looking For

Required

  • 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with hands-on design for consumer electronics products shipped at scale.
  • Demonstrated experience with high-density, multi-radio electrical design — integrating combinations of BLE, WiFi, cellular, and/or GNSS in constrained form factors.
  • Strong command of Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Strong fundamentals in EE and physics — not just application-level tool proficiency, but genuine understanding of why circuits behave the way they do.
  • Experience designing for small size and high integration density where every tradeoff matters
  • Experience with schematic validation, DFMEA/PFMEA, tolerance analysis, stress analysis, bench testing, laboratory testing, and alpha/beta test deployments.
  • Interest in leveraging AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate design, analysis, and       documentation workflows, using tools like Claude Code.
  • Fluency in using EE laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, DMMs, data loggers, and soldering tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a habit of documenting work and sharing knowledge proactively.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.

Preferred

Experience across several of the following:

  • Power system design (regulators, battery management, power budgeting)
  • Design of battery-powered products including battery modeling and test strategies.
  • Signal processing and signal integrity
  • Practical analog and mixed-signal circuit design
  • MCU selection, integration, and peripheral interfacing
  • Sensor integration (IMU, environmental, optical)
  • Test fixture and programming jig design
  • Experience working with CMs, ODMs, or overseas manufacturing partners
  • Familiarity with RF coexistence and antenna placement considerations in multi-radio designs

Who You Are

  • Driven and self-directed. You don't wait to be told what to do next. When there's a gap, you fill it. When there's a problem, you run toward it.
  • Thorough without being slow. You hold your own work to a high standard before it hits anyone else's desk. You self-review, question your assumptions, and dig deeper — but you’re driven to reach conclusions quickly..
  • Intellectually curious.  You are excited by the opportunity to take on new challenges and learn something new.  You pay attention to emergent technology and enjoy brainstorming about what it could do for our customers and team.  You're enthusiastic about exploring how AI can transform your engineering workflows.
  • A communicator. You overcommunicate by default — status updates, findings, blockers, ideas. You embrace digital tools and written documentation as force multipliers, not overhead.  You proactively leverage the experience of others to reach conclusions.
  • Flexible and hands-on. You juggle multiple workstreams comfortably. You're willing to travel occasionally for lab work, offsite team meetings, and CM visits.
  • Passionate about engineering. You care about the craft of building physical products. You stay curious about new technologies, materials, and methods.
Our Benefits
  • Competitive pay and benefits
  • Medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance plans (100% paid for employees)
  • 401(k) plan with company matching program
  • Mental Wellness Program & Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for mental well-being
  • Flexible PTO, 13 company-wide days off throughout the year
  • Winter and Summer Weeklong Synchronized Company Shutdowns
  • Learning & Development programs
  • Equipment, tools, and reimbursement support for a productive remote environment
  • Free Life360 Platinum Membership for your preferred circle
  • Free Tile Products
