Job Description

AECOM is seeking a talented and highly motivated Senior Federal A/E Project Manager for immediate employment in our Denver, Colorado or Colorado Springs, Colorado office. The Senior Project Manager will lead complex architecture and engineering projects in support of U.S. Federal Government programs, working across all phases of planning, design, procurement, construction, and closeout. Active engagement in AECOM’s collaborative design process is essential, along with the ability to deliver compliant, technically sound solutions aligned with federal standards, mission requirements, and acquisition frameworks. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to interface directly with federal clients and manage multi‑disciplinary teams on mission‑critical projects.

Job Summary

The Senior Federal A/E Project Manager will support capture efforts and proposal development and will manage projects from initial requirements definition and conceptual design through construction completion and facility turnover. You will lead teams of architects, engineers, planners, and technical specialists while coordinating directly with federal stakeholders to execute medium‑ and large‑scale programs within scope, schedule, and budget requirements.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Represent AECOM as the primary client interface for federal agencies, ensuring compliance with agency standards, policies, and contract requirements.
  • Achieve positive federal client feedback while meeting contractual milestones and performance metrics across multi‑year/multi‑task federal contracts.
  • Support capture and pursuit activities, helping develop compliant proposals, execution strategies, and technical approaches for federal RFPs and task orders.
  • Prepare detailed project management plans, schedules, scopes of work, staffing plans, execution plans, and procurement strategies aligned with federal requirements.
  • Track and manage project performance across the full program lifecycle, from capture and design through construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Lead and direct multi‑disciplinary technical staff to deliver compliant A/E projects in accordance with federal standards (e.g., UFC, agency design guides, FAR/DFARS requirements).
  • Interpret federal contract terms and conditions, negotiate modifications as needed, and adjust project management practices to meet agency‑specific requirements.
  • Maintain rigorous project documentation, reporting, and controls consistent with federal audit and compliance expectations.
  • Manage change, risk, and issue escalation in accordance with federal program governance.
  • Develop mitigation plans to proactively identify, monitor, and reduce federal project risks.
  • Coordinate internal teams and federal subcontractors throughout capture and execution.
  • Apply strong business acumen to deliver expected financial metrics and ensure compliance with federal cost reporting and project controls expectations.
  • Validate design and technical decisions through cost analysis, constructability review, procurement strategy, and mission alignment.
  • Integrate creative problem‑solving and innovative design approaches to deliver maximum value to federal clients.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Accredited Bachelors’ Degree in Architecture or Engineering with 6+ years of experience with an architectural, engineering, construction, or federal program organization, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • This position requires U.S. citizenship due to federal contract/security requirements. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing A/E Vertical Design Projects as a design consultant.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or Registered Architect
  • Accredited Master's degree in architecture or engineering ears of experience with an architectural, engineering, construction, or federal program organization
  • Superior communication, writing, editing, and reporting skills for a wide variety of audiences
  • Ideal candidate will have 10 or more years of professional experience managing A/E work
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple and concurrent projects
  • Ability to be client facing, lead client discussions and charrettes
  • Strong technical skills related to planning or building design and detailing
  • Experience coordinating work with a variety of disciplines: civil, landscape, and MEPS
  • Diversified knowledge of architectural principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields and working knowledge of building codes, standards, building construction, and building structures
  • Experience with construction administration and permitting processes
  • Experience capturing work in a key market sector
  • Performs work with minimal direction with periodic reporting to internal regional and Buildings + Places management
  • Familiarity with design software developments (i.e. Revit, Autodesk 360, Bluebeam, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) for the purposes of understanding needs and requirements.

  • Willingness to travel for specific project needs.  Anticipated travel is less than 5% of time.
  • This position requires U.S. citizenship due to federal contract/security requirements. 
  • Hybrid work environment.
