About the team:

The Mail Intelligence Org develops intelligent capabilities at scale to uncover interests, reveal habits, and personalize user journeys across Yahoo Mail and the entire Yahoo ecosystem.

We manage billions of mail messages with advanced backend systems and algorithms, including NLP, GenAI, and ML techniques. Our infrastructure extracts information, creates enhanced content, and integrates diverse data sources to amplify key insights. Responsibilities: 

  • Contribute to Mail Intelligence Mission: Support the development of AI/ML capabilities that enhance user personalization and insights within Yahoo Mail and the broader Yahoo ecosystem.

  • Innovate and Personalize: Build scalable AI/ML solutions that identify user interests and habits, contributing to personalized user experiences.

  • Team Leadership: Manage a team of 15 engineers, including ML, Data, and Backend Engineers.

  • Development and Deployment: Oversee the development and deployment of intelligent capabilities at scale, leveraging NLP, GenAI, and ML techniques.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including tech leads and architects, to integrate new AI/ML features and improve existing platforms, ensuring smooth user interactions.

  • Commitment to Excellence: Maintain high standards in engineering, code quality, and architecture.

  • Culture of Innovation: Foster innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement within the team.

  • Project Management: Manage timelines, resources, and deliverables to meet objectives.

  • People Management: Develop team members through coaching and career development.

  • Managing Engineering Outcomes: Deliver high-quality engineering outcomes aligned with business needs.

  • Managing Stakeholders: Engage stakeholders for requirements, updates, and expectation management.

Qualifications

  • Educational Requirement: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.

  • Leadership: 8+ years of experience, including 3+ years of leadership experience building and leading high-performing engineering teams.

  • Technical Expertise: Proven leadership of data and ML engineers with strong skills in Python, Java, or C++; proficient in discriminative and generative AI, and big data technologies such as Hadoop and Spark.

  • Collaboration: Effective in working with geographically distributed teams and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Strategic Vision: Ability to align team goals with organizational strategy for long-term success.

  • Stakeholder Management: Skilled in engaging stakeholders for requirements, updates, and expectation management.

  • Mentorship and Development: Experience in mentoring team members and fostering a culture of growth.

  • Problem-Solving Ability: Strong analytical skills for tackling complex, data-driven challenges.

  • Customer Focus: Proven track record of delivering solutions that meet customer needs and add value.

  • Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying updated with advancements in relevant technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cloud Experience:Experience with cloud-native architectures and public cloud platforms, especially Google Cloud Platform (GCP), is preferred.

  • Mail Experience: Prior experience working with email systems or related technologies is a plus.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in a global team environment.

The compensation for this position ranges from $143,625.00 - $299,375.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
