Job DescriptionAbout the Role
The Senior Director of Tax Operations is a senior leadership role that transforms unemployment tax operations and leads high-impact payroll tax consulting services. You will reimagine end-to-end processes, modernize service delivery models, and position tax operations as a strategic differentiator within the employer services industry.
This is a dual-focus role that balances operational leadership with client-facing consulting oversight. You bring deep payroll and unemployment tax expertise, executive presence, and experience building scalable, high-performing teams. You will report to Experian's Managing Director, Payroll Tax Consulting. You will have limited travel, approximately 5%, or less.
What You'll Do
Lead Unemployment Tax Operations (Approximately 50%)
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for the unemployment tax team delivering services under standard unemployment claims administration contracts.
- Oversee core unemployment tax activities, including:
- Review and routing of unemployment tax correspondence
- Analysis and validation of unemployment tax rates
- Execute statutory election opportunities
- Prepare annual tax rate reports and projections
- Reimagine and standardize end-to-end unemployment tax processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and client experience.
- Partner with senior leaders on enterprise programs and complex client engagements.
- Ensure compliance, scalability, and service delivery across all unemployment tax services.
Lead Payroll Tax Consulting (Approximately 50%)
- Lead a team of payroll tax consultants, providing mentorship, and technical guidance.
- Be a pod leader, managing payroll tax consulting projects from initiation through completion.
- Review technical deliverables to ensure accuracy, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Develop tailored project plans with care for client risks, needs, and objectives.
- Be a senior client advisor, maintaining relationships and addressing issues.

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of experience in payroll tax, unemployment tax, or employer tax services.
- Experience leading teams and managing complex, multi-phase projects.
- Deep technical knowledge of payroll tax consulting and unemployment tax compliance.
- Client-facing experience, including executive-level communication and relationship management.
- Experience leading process improvement and operational transformation.
- CPA, CPP, or other relevant professional certification.
- Experience in consulting, professional services, or project-based delivery environments.
- Experience scaling teams or service offerings to support growth.
- Familiarity with employer services platforms or strategic partnerships (e.g., payroll providers).
