The Opportunity

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will lead the design and implementation of data solutions to enable our engineering, operations, and business teams to leverage its data effectively, better automate its processes, and monitor and react to issues. This engineer will play a major role in Flock Safety’s real-time analytics technical strategy and execution.

The Skillset

  • Experience with Data Stack/Infrastructure and tooling such as:

    • Redshift, GCP, etc..– Enterprise Data Warehouse

    • Infrastructure as Code/Deployment – Terraform, GitHub Actions

    • Data Ingestion – Debezium, Third Party APIs, Streaming (Kinesis Data Firehose)

    • Data Transformation – DBT, Prefect

    • Observability – Grafana

    • Reporting/Data Visualization – Sigma, QuickSight

  • Able to take on complex problems, learn quickly, iterate, and persist towards a good solution

  • Effectively communicate, at the level of your audience, and seek to understand and be understood

90 Days at Flock

We are a results-oriented culture and believe job descriptions are a thing of the past. We prescribe to 90 day plans and believe that good days lead to good weeks, which lead to good months. This serves as a preview of the 90 day plan you will receive if you were to be hired as a Senior Data Engineer at Flock Safety.

The First 30 Days

  • Meet the team & cross-functional stakeholders

  • One major cultural component within Flock’s engineering teams is the “first day push”. The first day push focuses setup and onboarding to the things that matter to deliver value.

  • Understand the systems and processes in place that Data Engineering uses, and leverage them to produce additional value

The First 60 Days

  • Support and develop Data Engineering initiatives (ETL pipeline, API ingestion, etc..)

  • Learn the cross-team relationships and work, and use them to drive a larger impact to the company.

90 Days & Beyond

  • Becoming responsible for the team’s systems and processes, and making sure they are well-engineered.

  • Identify at least 3 issues/optimizations for the team

  • Reviewer for all Data Engineering PRs

The Interview Process

We want our interview process to be a true reflection of our culture: transparent and collaborative. Throughout the interview process, your recruiter will guide you through the next steps and ensure you feel prepared every step of the way.

  1. Our First Chat: During this first conversation, you’ll meet with a recruiter to chat through your background, what you could bring to Flock, what you are looking for in your next role, and who we are.

  2. The Hiring Manager Interview: You will meet with your potential future boss to really dive into the role, the team, expectations, and what success means at Flock. This is your chance to really nerd out with someone in your field.

  3. The Technical Assessment: Our technical assessments seek to test the hard skills required to do the job. Engineers may find themselves in coding interviews or architecture discussions, sales roles may present mock discovery calls, and leadership roles may craft 90 day plans. Your recruiter will inform you of which assessment you will be assigned and ensure you are fully prepared for your big day.

  4. The Panel: Learn more about the team, responsibilities, and workflows. You should be prepared to speak about past projects, how you collaborate and communicate with others, and how you live our values. Depending on the team and role you are interviewing for, you may meet with several teammates as well as cross-functional partners.

Salary & Equity

In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary between $145,000 and $180,000 as well as Flock Safety Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in-depth with you during our first chat.
