Over the 60 plus years of Generac’s history, we’ve been dedicated to energy innovation. From creating the home standby generator market category, to our current evolution into an energy technology solutions company, we continue to push new boundaries.
As a Senior Data Architect on Generac’s Industrial Cloud team, you will play a critical role in designing and evolving cloud-scale data platforms that power our industrial IoT solutions. This role sits at the intersection of architecture, data engineering, and platform strategy—owning the design of highly available, high‑volume data systems that ingest and serve telematics data from industrial energy assets in the field.
At Generac, we are committed to building sustainable, cleaner energy technology at scale. You’ll join a collaborative, high‑impact team working on cloud-hosted services that monitor and optimize large‑scale generators, battery storage, and microgrid systems—software that is used, valued, and makes a real difference.
Responsibilities:
Define and own the architecture for cloud-based data solutions, ensuring scalability, reliability, and high availability
Lead data architecture discussions and collaborate closely with engineering, product, ML, and cross‑functional stakeholders
Design, build, and maintain production datastores supporting high‑speed, high‑volume industrial IoT and telematics data
Translate business and product requirements into conceptual, logical, and physical data models
Drive best practices for data reliability, performance tuning, partitioning, indexing, and data quality
Analyze how customers and systems use data, identify inefficiencies, and propose architectural improvements
Coach and mentor engineers on data architecture best practices through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance
Clearly explain complex technical solutions to both technical and non‑technical audiences, including leadership
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
8+ years of experience working across the data tier, from design through development and production support
5+ years of experience in a data architect role with strong grounding in enterprise data architecture concepts
Proven experience leading data architecture in production cloud environments (Azure preferred)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with high‑speed, high‑volume telematics or time‑series data
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform
Programming or scripting experience in Python, PowerShell, and/or T‑SQL
Experience supporting or enabling AI/ML projects
Knowledge of data governance, data privacy, and compliance (e.g., GDPR)
Enterprise‑level expertise with Microsoft SQL Server or similar relational databases
Hands‑on experience with at least one NoSQL database (e.g., key‑value, document, graph, or column store)
Strong experience with data warehouse, data lake, and lakehouse design patterns
Experience designing and maintaining data pipelines
Deep knowledge of data modeling (conceptual, logical, physical)
Strong understanding of performance tuning, indexing, and partitioning strategies
Passion for modern data architecture, microservices, and cloud-native data platforms
