The Senior Data Analyst will analyze various healthcare data, support underwriting decisions, build dashboards, communicate insights, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve healthcare experiences for members.
Sana’s vision is simple yet bold: make healthcare easy.
We all know navigating healthcare in the U.S. is confusing, costly, and frustrating -- and our members are used to feeling that pain. That’s why we’re building something different: affordable health plans designed around Sana Care, our integrated care model connecting members with unlimited primary care and expert care navigation at no additional cost to them.
Whether it’s a quick prescription refill or guidance through a complex medical journey, Sana Care makes it feel effortless to get the right care at the right time. And for employers and brokers, we’ve built intuitive tools to make managing health benefits just as seamless.
We’re seeking a Senior Data Analyst to play a critical role on our Actuarial, Underwriting, and Data Team, helping turn complex healthcare data into clear, actionable insights to drive real business decisions. This person will work across revenue, pricing, claims, eligibility, clinical, product, and other day-to-day operational data to answer high-impact questions like: What’s driving our cost trends? Where are members struggling in their healthcare journey? How are our care programs performing?
The ideal candidate is deeply curious, comfortable with ambiguity, and energized by messy, real-world healthcare data. You enjoy digging into details, spotting patterns, and translating your findings into stories your non-technical stakeholders can understand and (most importantly) act on. Equally important, you bring a collaborative, flexible, and entrepreneurial mindset well-suited to a fast-growing startup. Reporting to the Head Actuary, you’ll build and maintain core reporting dashboards, develop ad hoc analyses that support underwriting and pricing decisions, evaluate the impact of care and benefit design changes, and partner closely with teams across Revenue, Finance, Product & Engineering, Legal, Care, and Operations.
If you love solving hard problems to make people’s lives easier, come build with us.
What you will do:
- Analyze revenue, pricing, claims, eligibility, clinical, product, and other day-to-day operational data to identify trends, cost drivers, risks, and opportunities across Sana’s health plans and care model
- Support actuarial and underwriting decisions through exploratory analysis, reporting, and ongoing performance monitoring
- Evaluate the impact of various care programs, benefit designs, and operational initiatives on cost, utilization, and member experience
- Serve as a trusted thought partner to stakeholders across Revenue, Finance, Care Team, Operations, and Product on strategic initiatives and ambiguous problems
- Write production-quality SQL and analytical code; validate results, document assumptions, and ensure analyses are reproducible and trustworthy
- Build and maintain dashboards and recurring reports used by leaders across the organization
- Ensure metrics are accurate, consistent, and aligned with shared definitions; proactively surface data quality issues and anomalies
- Communicate findings clearly through data visualizations, written summaries, and presentations tailored to non-technical audiences
- Collaborate with the Product/Engineering team on data modeling, pipeline improvements, and analytics standards
- Contribute to data governance, documentation, and data literacy efforts across the company
- Handle sensitive healthcare data thoughtfully, securely, and in compliance with applicable regulations
About you:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in data analysis, analytics, or a related quantitative role
- Strong fluency in SQL and comfort working directly with large, complex datasets
- Advanced experience building clear, trustworthy dashboards and visualizations using tools such as Tableau and Mode
- Experience with (or strong interest in learning) programming and statistical analysis using tools like Python or R; experience working with healthcare data (e.g., claims, eligibility, utilization, clinical, or benefits data) is also a plus
- Experience with version-controlled data transformation using tools like dbt, Git, and Amazon Redshift
- Use AI-native development tools (like Cursor and dbt Copilot) to accelerate modeling workflows to deliver high-performance Tableau and Mode reports that drive strategic decision-making
- Strong attention to detail, paired with the ability to communicate insights clearly in both written and verbal form paired with a natural curiosity to dig beneath the surface of the data
- Comfortable partnering cross-functionally and translating between technical analysis and business decision-making in a fast-moving, ambiguous startup environment, where priorities evolve and roles are not rigidly defined
- Bring a builder’s mindset -- you are enjoy both improving existing tools while designing new dashboards and frameworks from the ground up
- Communicate clearly and thoughtfully, whether collaborating asynchronously, writing documentation, or working through complex problems live
- Care deeply about Sana’s mission and are motivated by the opportunity to make healthcare work better for people and employers
- Show humility, curiosity, and follow-through, earning trust through strong judgment, accountability, and collaboration.
Benefits:
- Remote company with a fully distributed team – no return-to-office mandates
- Flexible vacation policy (and a culture of using it)
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance with 100% company-paid employee coverage
- 401(k), FSA, and HSA plans
- Paid parental leave
- Short and long-term disability, as well as life insurance
