The Opportunity
Flock is seeking an experienced, creative, and high-energy attorney to join the legal team as Senior Counsel, Privacy and AI. Reporting to the Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer, this role will be responsible for:
Maintaining expertise on current and new data protection and AI laws and providing strategic counsel to stakeholders, translating complex legal requirements into clear and actionable guidance.
Serving as a trusted and strategic advisor to cross functional teams (e.g., product, engineering, security, marketing) to embed privacy by design into the product development lifecycle, operational workflows, and other company-wide initiatives.
The development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Flock’s privacy and AI compliance program including the creation and maintenance of data protection policies and standards, and data privacy risk assessments.
Drafting, negotiating, and advising on commercial terms related to privacy or AI, actively enabling and accelerating deals while appropriately managing risk.
Collaborating with Flock’s Privacy Engineering team to manage data subject requests and cookie compliance consistent with legal requirements and industry best practices.
Managing Flock’s privacy incident response program in collaboration with Information Security and senior leadership to review and triage potential privacy incidents, communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and meet regulatory reporting requirements.
Supporting interactions with external counsel, auditors, and regulators to anticipate, influence, and respond to evolving privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, or AI regulations and issues.
Supporting the business with responses to external inquiries regarding Flock’s privacy program.
The Skillset
JD from an accredited U.S. law school and an active bar license in good standing with one or more U.S. state bars.
4-6 years experience, preferably at a combination of law firm and in-house roles, advising on data privacy, AI, and cybersecurity matters.
Deep knowledge of U.S. and global data privacy, cybersecurity, and compliance laws and frameworks (e.g., CCPA/CPRA; PIPEDA; GDPR) and experience advising on complex privacy matters, including managing privacy and data protection risk frameworks and governance.
Experience with AI governance and emerging AI regulations. The ideal candidate will also have hands-on experience developing and applying AI governance principles and controls.
Proven track record of building trust and aligning incentives with cross functional stakeholders by translating regulatory requirements into practical business guidance, coordinating complex cross-functional projects, and using creative problem solving to find practical solutions that balance risk with ambitious growth objectives.
Experience negotiating cybersecurity and data governance terms in contracts with vendors and customers.
Strong legal judgment and excellent analytical skills, the ability to quickly and thoughtfully analyze issues of first impression, and a willingness to engage and solve complex legal issues.
Ability to learn quickly and work independently in a constantly changing and sometimes ambiguous environment while still making sound decisions and taking a smart approach to risk management.
Excellent organizational skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and a sense of humor.

First 30 Days
Meet with key cross-functional stakeholders to learn about their departments, key initiatives, and priorities that may require advice and review from a privacy or AI perspective.
Develop an understanding of Flock’s products and product architecture, including data flows through the platform.
Review the existing privacy policy, data protection agreements, and other internal policies related to privacy, data governance, or AI.
Gain an understanding of all workflows and processes related to the management of DSARs and cookie compliance.
First 60 Days
Assess Flock’s product and data processing activity under applicable data protection laws.
Based on stakeholder interviews, product deep-dives, and a review of current privacy documentation, develop and kick off a plan to address any identified gaps or areas for improvement.
Serve as key stakeholders for product and engineering initiatives to evaluate and provide counsel on privacy and AI principles
Partner with Procurement/Security to update the vendor risk assessment process.
First 90 Days
Outline the 6-12 month roadmap for privacy and AI related initiatives, including any required steps that may be necessary to enable anticipated business growth.
Streamline and enhance privacy operations workflows (e.g., DSAR management).
Enhance Flock’s Trust Center with materials explaining Flock’s privacy and AI programs.
Salary & Equity
In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary between $140,000 and $200,000 as well as Flock Safety Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in-depth with you during our first chat.
