Summary:

Anaconda's Commercial Legal team closes deals with 95% of the Fortune 500, and this role sits right at the center of that engine. We're looking for a Senior Counsel who can negotiate a $2M+ Fortune 100 agreement on Monday and ship the playbook that makes the next 50 deals easier by Friday.

This is a builder-closer seat. You'll move fast, exercise sharp judgment on risk, and turn what you learn in the room into templates, playbooks, and processes that make the whole team faster. You'll partner directly with our enterprise, commercial, and mid-market sales teams, and help shape our approach on a mix of complex issues - including open-source/proprietary licensing, data governance, regulatory compliance questions - that most commercial counsel never touch.

If you're the go-to deal lawyer who also builds the systems that make everyone around you better — and you're already using AI to get there — we want to talk to you.

This position reports to the Head of Commercial Legal and is fully remote.

What You’ll Do:

  • Close deals fast and well: Provide high impact partnership and support to our revenue teams, including the enterprise, commercial, and mid-market sales teams, the customer success team, and the professional services team.
  • Be a true partner to revenue: Provide hands-on support to enterprise, commercial, and mid-market sales, customer success, and professional services, effectively helping to meet business objectives and close deals while managing potential risks — the kind of partnership that makes people want to loop you in early.
  • Build systems: Own and continuously improve our templates, playbooks, and resources so every deal after yours closes faster and better; and and track key operational and business metrics.
  • Flex where there’s need: Take on various legal needs of a high-growth company, including with our product, marketing, community relations, and similar teams, based on background and interest.
  • Advise and guide: Act as a strategic business partner, advising internal clients and leadership on legal matters critical to growth and innovation.
  • Put AI to work: Leverage AI tools and workflows to accelerate drafting and negotiation without sacrificing quality, with a focus on building scalable processes that the entire Commercial Legal team can benefit from.
  • Mentor: Serve as a resource and mentor to more junior members of the Legal Team.

What You Need:

  • JD or equivalent from an accredited law school and a license to practice in an applicable jurisdiction.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant legal experience.
  • Extensive experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements and intellectual property licenses, including SaaS, partnership, professional services, and vendor agreements.
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial law, IP law, data protection regulations and other regulatory requirements.
  • A track record of working collaboratively and building trusted strategic advisor relationships with internal clients.
  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to translate complex issues into practical, actionable guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, collaborate cross-functionally, and drive resolution of open issues.
  • AI fluency - you've built a real tool, workflow, or process with AI that measurably improved speed or scale, and you're excited to bring that mindset here.
  • Willingness to operate as an individual contributor  with the scrappy mentality needed to succeed in a high-growth company.

How Your Impact Will Be Measured:

  • Velocity of revenue deal closed on risk-balanced terms.
  • Percentage of deals closed without senior review or escalation.
  • Number of contract templates and playbooks updated and successfully adopted.
  • Number of informal team practices fleshed out and documented as policies and processes.
  • Development of metrics to assess impact of team’s use of AI tools.
  • Stakeholder confidence in your ability to communicate clearly and in a timely manner.
  • Time and effort spent mentoring others on the team.

What Will Make You Stand Out:

  • Law firm and in-house experience.
  • Experience working at a company that is active in open source.
  • Knowledge or curiosity about the technology powering our products and services.
  • A bias towards proactive engagement - you seek stretch projects and jump in to help others out.
  • Experience thriving in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, ideally within a startup or with a demonstrated ability to adapt to rapid change.
Why You'll Like Working Here:
  • You'll thrive in a high-performance environment where results are recognized and rewarded
  • Your work directly contributes to shaping the future of data science, machine learning, and AI in the enterprise.
  • You'll work alongside a collaborative team that values diverse, thoughtful discussion, clarity and candor.
  • You'll be supported by a culture that puts employees first - with flexible hours, a fully remote setup, and a genuine commitment to your wellbeing and growth.
