Silverback Strategies is a performance marketing agency built to help marketers grow and capitalize on change. Ad Age, Inc Magazine, The Washington Post, The Washingtonian, and The Washington Business Journal have recognized Silverback as one of the best places to work.
We hire the best and help them get better. Silverbackers are supported, challenged and inspired by their peers. Regardless of title or tenure, every Silverbacker plays a role in helping our agency get better. This is a place where you can make a difference.
Today, Silverback is looking to hire a new Senior Content Lead to serve as our SEO department’s resident content strategy expert, leading the development and execution of high-impact content strategies that integrate seamlessly with SEO best practices and client business goals.
As an innovator and leader within the department, you’ll shape content direction across a portfolio of clients, act as a trusted advisor in client conversations, and mentor team members. You’ll play a key role in ensuring all content initiatives are driven by data, insights, and long-term growth objectives — you will not only spearhead clients’ initial content strategies, but you’ll also continuously optimize strategies through iterative improvements based on performance data & measurement.
Our Senior Content Lead will be considered the go-to expert on content strategy and execution, overseeing the end-to-end content process from research and ideation through performance measurement and iteration. This self-motivated and strategic thinker will inspire team members to deliver best-in-class content strategies, while optimizing processes and up-leveling our content product. You’ll also own client-facing content leadership, presenting insights and recommendations that directly tie to our clients’ business outcomes.
The Senior Content Lead is expected to collaborate closely with Silverback’s team of all-star SEO Account Managers to align content with clients’ broader marketing strategies & business goals. You’ll report directly to Silverback’s Director of SEO, and will take full ownership of the continued evolution of Silverback’s content products & processes.
Here’s what we expect from our Senior Content Lead:
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead Silverback’s content strategy process from start to finish, overseeing the creation of comprehensive content plans that align with both SEO and client business goals. This includes serving as the client-facing team expert on content and leading content focused discussions and presentations for clients.
- Develop detailed, goal-oriented content briefs that guide copywriters and SEO Managers, ensuring alignment with clients’ SEO objectives, business priorities, and overall goals.
- Play a key role in measurement & optimization by tracking content performance, identifying what’s working and what’s not, and iterating content strategies accordingly.
- Support Editorial Calendar development by collaborating with SEO Account Managers to develop quarterly content roadmaps that prioritize high-impact opportunities, ensuring content aligns with broader marketing initiatives.
- Innovate and provide thought leadership by staying ahead of industry trends. Lead internal discussions on emerging best practices and SEO/content integration.
- Mentor junior team members and the overall SEO team/department in content strategy and execution. Provide guidance and training to help elevate the team’s overall strategic thinking based on SEO analyses and business needs.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years of experience in content strategy, content marketing, or SEO, with at least 2 years in a senior or leadership capacity.
- Proven experience in leading content strategy for multiple clients or teams, ideally in an agency environment. Previous experience with project management tools (especially Asana!) is a plus.
- Deep understanding of SEO principles and their connection to content strategy, user experience, and conversion optimization. Proven track record of applying SEO knowledge to content creation and optimization.
- Expertise in conducting thorough research (including competitor analysis, persona development, and content gap analysis) and turning findings into actionable content strategies.
- Ability to analyze content performance data and use insights to refine strategies. Experience using analytics tools (Google Analytics, SEMrush, etc.) to track content success and ROI.
- Ability to present strategies, performance results, and recommendations in a persuasive, client-facing manner.
- Experience working with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, HubSpot, or similar platforms, and familiarity with content publishing workflows.
