Job Summary:
The Senior Consultant, Tax Research works with a team to perform multistate sales and use tax research, to maintain the research in an online database, and to work with the Director of Tax Research to resolve customer service issues. The Senior Consultant will also make taxability determinations, formulate and compile opinions regarding tax ramifications to complex transactions, input research into the database, and maintain a knowledge base of current taxability issues. In addition, the Senior Consultant will be expected to work with a team of 2 to 5 people, review draft research, and assist with managing project progress.

Client:
- Maintains effective and efficient communication with state and local tax agencies, SMEs, and other stakeholders through written and verbal channels.
- Interacts with the Director, Tax Research, to research and resolve customer service issues.
- Researches and analyzes multistate sales and use tax issues and communicates the results to Service Delivery practices.
Value:
- Assists with the design of the content of the tax research database.
- Reviews and comments on tax research performed by others.
- Analyzes industry-specific tax requirements and exemptions.
- Assists in the development of comprehensive tax documentation and methodology using advanced technology.
- Researches multistate taxability through various sources, including legal online databases and the Internet.
- Analyzes and documents current, multistate tax laws and law changes.
- Makes taxability determinations and formulate opinions regarding tax ramifications to complex transactions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree or equivalent in Accounting and/or Finance and three to five years of prior experience analyzing state sales and use taxes required.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft® Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Advanced knowledge of Internet and research software is required. The individual will also need a strong working knowledge of tax research tools such as CCH and Lexis/Nexis.
Certificates and Licenses:
Valid driver’s license required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Requires limited supervisory responsibilities, including training employees, assigning work, and verifying work accuracy and completeness.
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
- Standard indoor working environment.
- Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.
- Position requires regular interaction with employees both in person and via e-mail and telephone.
- Independent travel requirement: potential for 20% or more.
Compensation:
For certain California based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $85,000 - $110,000
For other California based locations, the base salary hiring range for this position is $92,000 - $119,000
For Colorado based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $80,000 - $104,000
For New York based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $92,000 - $119,000
For Washington based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $85,000 - $110,000
