Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking a Senior Business Systems Analyst – AI & Automation to help define how the business operates today and how it evolves through the use of AI and intelligent automation.
The primary focus of this role is understanding complex business workflows and identifying where AI-enabled capabilities, intelligent automation, and decision-support systems can improve operational performance and scalability.
This role is responsible for translating real-world business processes into clearly defined, AI-ready workflows. You will document how work actually happens, identify decision points and inefficiencies, and define where AI or automation can be applied in a practical, scalable way.
You will partner closely with Product Managers, Architects, and Engineering teams, who will take these defined opportunities forward into solution design and implementation.
This is not a traditional Business Analyst role focused only on documentation. This role sits at the intersection of process discovery, systems thinking, and AI opportunity identification.
This position will offer flexibility for hybrid work schedules to include both in-office presence and telecommute/virtual work, to be based from either Houston or Dallas, TX.
What You’ll Do
- Lead process discovery through stakeholder interviews and workshops, building a deep understanding of business processes, pain points, rules, and outcomes
- Design and document as-is and to-be processes, focusing on process intent, value streams, and system-level behavior
- Identify and define AI and automation opportunities within business workflows based on decision points, data availability, and operational constraints
- Translate process insights into clear artifacts such as process flows, BRDs, and analysis summaries that inform downstream solution design
- Define AI-ready process specifications, including intents, decision logic, data inputs/outputs, human-in-the-loop points, escalation paths, and guardrails
- Partner with Product, Architecture, and Engineering to align processes with system boundaries, event signals, data quality requirements, and agentic inputs
- Establish outcome measures and KPIs and support post-go-live tracking, governance, and Responsible AI requirements
- Support validation, UAT readiness, and continuous improvement by incorporating operational feedback and user corrections over time
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree plus at least 8 years of experience in process analysis, process mapping, and/or business analysis roles, or demonstrated equivalent experience and education
- Demonstrated experience leading process discovery and stakeholder engagement across complex business environments
- Strong ability to design and communicate future-state processes and translate them into clear requirements and documentation
- Experience identifying and contributing to AI or automation opportunities within business processes, including defining decision points, inputs/outputs, and workflow logic
- Strong written communication skills and ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights
- Experience working on business processes that were improved through automation, AI, or decision-support systems in a real-world environment
- Experience defining AI-ready processes, including human-in-the-loop design, exception handling, and translating workflows into clear requirements for implementation
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience with BPMN or process modeling tools
- Background in Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement
- Exposure to process mining, task mining, or operational analytics
- Experience partnering with Product, Architecture, or Engineering teams
- Familiarity with decision modeling (e.g., DMN), intent design, or agent workflow concepts
- Experience translating process mining insights into AI/agent design
- Relocation assistance is not available for this position
- Sponsorship for US work authorization is not available for this position, now or in the future
