JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

What you will do: 

You'll be a key engineer on our Self Service team, building the digital products that millions of Astro subscribers use to manage their accounts. The apps we build include the My Astro app, astro.com.my, My NJOI app, and internal apps for employees and dealers 

  • Own end-to-end delivery of customer-facing features across our web and mobile apps, from system design through to production monitoring 

  • Build and maintain backend services and APIs in Node.js/TypeScript that power self-service journeys (subscriptions, billing, entitlements, and account management) 

  • Develop responsive, performant frontends using React and Next.js, with strong attention to UX across device types 

  • Design and ship AI-assisted features, including conversational interfaces, intelligent search, and LLM-powered tooling leveraging cloud AI services such as AWS Bedrock or equivalent 

  • Work with AWS infrastructure (Lambda, EKS, SQS, RDS, DynamoDB) to build reliable, cost-aware systems and contribute to infra decisions 

  • Integrate with third-party platforms and internal systems such as payment gateways, CMS, identity/SSO 

  • Write automated tests (unit, integration) and participate in code reviews that raise the bar for the whole team 

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines (Bitbucket Pipelines) and support a healthy production environment through monitoring, alerting, and incident response 

  • Collaborate with product managers and designers in an Agile team, from sprint planning through to retrospectives 

  • Mentor junior engineers and help build a culture of shared ownership and continuous improvement 

REQUIREMENTS:

Who you are: 

  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful time spent on production full-stack systems 

  • Fluent in TypeScript/JavaScript across backend (Node.js: Express, Fastify, or similar) and frontend (React, Next.js) 

  • Experience designing and building scalable RESTful APIs and integrating with third-party services 

  • Experience with databases across relational (MySQL, PostgreSQL) or NoSQL (DynamoDB) 

  • Comfortable with state management (Zustand, Redux) and data fetching patterns (SWR, React Query) 

  • Strong UI skills using Tailwind CSS or comparable frameworks; you care about cross-device quality 

  • Good instincts around security, observability, and production hygiene (logging, alerting, cost-aware resource usage) 

  • Work well across cross-functional teams and communicates clearly. You can translate technical trade-offs for non-engineers 

  • Experience with development on AWS or a similar public cloud provider is a plus. 

  • Hands-on with AI/LLM integration including building features with AWS Bedrock, OpenAI, or similar is a plus.
