Provide counsel and advice on complex projects and legal matters affecting the organization, and work with senior leaders from various business lines and support units. Strategically develop and execute operational initiatives for the Bank’s Legal Division.
Primary Responsibilities:Perform a variety of complex or specialized legal activities to protect the organization and help ensure it complies with all relevant laws and regulations; including but limited to work on projects related to digital forensics, e-discovery, litigation holds and complex discovery
Provide legal advice in multiple areas of expertise to senior managers to ensure their activities, policies, business practices, and transactions comply with all relevant laws and regulations.
Assist with development and management of reporting to management and board committees.
Make recommendations to senior management on how to respond to legal issues or proposed changes in laws and regulations.
Partner with Compliance, Risk and Audit groups to help lead divisional/departmental matters, as appropriate.
Develop and implement streamlined and strategic policies and procedures for the legal support of multiple divisions.
Prepare or review more complex materials for external legal counsel.
Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
Other responsibilities as assigned
This position is responsible for advising on litigation operations, abandoned funds, and projects, as appropriate. Incumbent should be able to anticipate and guard against legal risks facing the Bank, develop and recommend corporate policy and positions on a broad range of legal issues and conduct and coordinate legal research. This is a senior level position that requires interaction with senior and executive management on a regular basis.
Education and Experience Required:J.D. from an accredited law school.
Minimum of 10 years' experience as an attorney or other relevant legal experience.
Minimum of 7 years' work leadership experience, including direct or indirect people management.
Experience managing large initiatives/projects.
New York State or applicable state bar admission.
Ability to identify legal issues, evaluate legal risks, and offer solutions.
Strong negotiation, interpersonal, organizational skills.
Excellent writing, analytical and verbal skills.
Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
