JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Astro is the leading media house in Malaysia for the last 30 years. Within this group sits Astro PayTV, Sooka OTT, and NJOI.
Partnerships are core to how we grow reach, acquire subscribers, and generate revenue. We're looking for a senior partnerships leader to own our external commercial relationships end-to-end — from telco distribution to consumer brand and financial-services tie-ups — and to represent the full Astro portfolio to partners where each product fits.
This is a builder-and-closer role: build, develop relationships, structure creative commercial deals, and turn them into durable revenue.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Own and grow Astro, Sooka, & NJOI’s partnership portfolio across telcos, consumer brands, banks, and platform partners, with direct accountability for partnership-driven revenue and subscriber growth.
- Manage and deepen active telco relationships (Maxis, CelcomDigi, TM, U Mobile) — from senior commercial contacts through to execution teams.
- Structure, negotiate, and close commercial deals, including non-standard models (e.g. wholesale, bundled, engagement- or usage-tiered pricing) that balance partner economics with Sooka margin.
- Represent Astro as a group to partners, positioning the right product for each opportunity across Astro One, Astro X3, Sooka, and NJOI.
- Build and maintain a partnership pipeline, with clear commercial cases, forecasts, and prioritisation.
- Work cross-functionally with Product, Finance, Tech, and Marketing to bring deals from term sheet to live, and to ensure delivery against commercial terms.
- Own partner governance — contracting, performance tracking, QBRs, and renewals.
REQUIREMENTS:
WHO YOU ARE:
- 10–12+ years in B2B partnerships, business development, or commercial/sales roles, with progressive seniority.
- A demonstrable track record of building revenue-generating partnerships, with numbers you can speak to.
- Ability to build and maintain rapport with key stakeholders internally and externally.
- Strong commercial and deal-structuring acumen — comfortable modelling partner economics and negotiating complex terms.
- Experience in contract management.
- Currently in (or very recently from) the media, streaming/OTT, or telco industry.
- Ability to operate credibly across multiple products and represent a group portfolio to external partners.
- A relationship-builder who can generate high level discussions to hands-on understanding the details.
- Commercially sharp — you think in unit economics, not just logos.
- A strong negotiator who protects value without burning the relationship.
- Self-directed, pipeline-disciplined, and outcomes-oriented.
- A clear communicator who can align internal stakeholders and represent Astro externally with authority.
- Ability to build and drive high performance team.
Key advantages if you have:
- Existing relationships across Malaysian telcos (Maxis, CelcomDigi, TM, U Mobile).
- Existing relationships with major Malaysian consumer brands and banks/financial-services players.
- Exposure to OTT/streaming business models, subscriber economics, or digital distribution.
