We are looking for a Senior AI Scientist to help define and build the next generation of AI-powered health experiences at Oura. This is a hybrid role that blends AI engineering, ML deployment, backend engineering, and applied science — sitting at the intersection of cutting-edge AI techniques and real consumer impact. You will work on a small, high-ownership team with direct visibility to senior leadership, driving the evaluation, development, and deployment of custom AI solutions and agentic systems that power Oura's AI Advisor.

This is not a research role. You will be expected to move from idea to production, own systems end to end, and proactively identify what to build next.

What You Will Do

  • Build, deploy, and maintain production-grade AI and ML pipelines, backend services, and infrastructure that support Oura's AI Advisor and custom model initiatives
  • Design and implement evaluation systems and tooling to measure grounding, reliability, and actionability of LLM and agentic systems in production
  • Develop and deploy agentic AI systems in production
  • Lead initiatives end to end — from problem definition and research through deployment, monitoring, and iteration
  • Partner with Product and Engineering teams to translate data-driven insights into shipped product features
  • Build and optimize custom AI solutions through fine-tuning, knowledge distillation, and quantization
  • Help build Oura as a leader in AI expertise and infrastructure
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve the product and bring your own ideas to the table

This is a remote US role.

Requirements

We would love to have you on our team if you have:

  • 5+ years of experience in production AI or ML work — you have shipped models and systems used by real external users
  • Strong backend engineering fundamentals — you have built APIs, infrastructure, logging, and monitoring systems for production ML or AI pipelines and are comfortable owning them on-call
  • Demonstrated experience building, deploying, and evaluating LLM or agentic systems in production environments
  • Strong programming skills in Python and experience with ML and AI frameworks
  • Experience leading projects end to end — from research and problem definition through deployment and monitoring
  • The ability to operate with high autonomy in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment where you define your own roadmap
  • Strong communication skills — you can distill complex technical work for non-technical stakeholders including senior leadership

Preferred skills:

  • Experience building AI agents and multi-step agentic workflows
  • Experience with fine-tuning, knowledge distillation, or quantization of LLMs
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, CDK)
  • Background in consumer health, wellness, or personalization AI

Oura takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

  • Region 1  $203,000 - $233,000
  • Region 2  $187,000 - $215,000
  • Region 3  $174,000 - $200,000
